I like the rice in my garage

It sits in the next bay to my SCrew, matches the silver..almost.

NO way in he!! is would even come close to beating a L, would not even venture to say if I did...

It has 102 K miles on it, runs like the day it was new
Real nice ride, 9 year old Lexus LS-400.

Say what you will about rice, when it comes to a nice car...can't beat it for the money, in my opinion.

The other side of the SCrew, Honda GoldWing, 1988 runs like a top. I would own another in a heart beat.
That is the closet I could get to giving a L a run...and that might not be too much of a challenge, even with the apples and oranges compare

Funny how I have been through 2 pickups and in the same time I've had the same motorcycle and the same car....hummmmm

If you poke fun, poke fun at the morons that call nitrous noss, and think a sticker mod is a big improvement, not the car mfgr or where it came from.

Relax, I don't know about everybody else but I don't like the imports with the over sized decals, wings, spoilers, and exhaust. Besides a little humor once in a while is not going to bring down the quality of these forums.

I can think of a cool Acura. My buddy has a '93 Acure NSX for sale. It'll give the Lightning a run for the money. I haven't driven either the NSX or a Lightning so I couldn't say wich is actually faster but I know for sure that my supercharged 4.6 is no match for the NSX.
Yellow, 5-speed, 53k, $33.000. Stock trim except wheels and tires. In case anyone is interested.

All it takes is money and you can make anything fast. I don't have a problem with people hopping up the imports, in fact I would like to do one myself someday, for fun. The problem I have is all the imports in this area, mostly old ones, with the big tail pipe, wing and stickers that practicly stall taking off from lights because they have eliminated any semblance of torque. It seems to me that there a lot of people who really don't have a clue what they are doing to their cars. I think if we saw more successes with the imports they would earn the respect.

What do I know though!

Riceboy, if you can build a better import with the money you would drop on an L, do us all a favor, build the import. There is enough whining around here without having to add your name to the growing list of whiners.

Uhhmm. OK

It's not whining, you semi-literate moron. Read more carefully, one word at a time. Sound it out if you have to. I'll probably get flamed to death on count of cyber-chivalry, but stupidity isnt specific to any gender.

Moron #1 posts some un-funny crap he didnt even write, just copied off a website somewhere (not even linking the URL to give credit) and then makes great big sweeping generalizations about all imports in the face of plenty of evidence to the contrary. Some members of this forum offer support.

Are there idiots out there with stickers and wings ? Absolutely. They deserve our contempt. They're out there in the domestic scene too (see http://www.beaterz.com)

Does a V8 layout with typically *three times* the displacement of an I4 have an advantage ? Duh, yes.

Can the differences (shortcomings) of small displacement/FWD layout be overcome with technology (in this case forced induction) -- you betcha !!

And I already have a Eaton powered 4-5 seater that runs mid-13's and gets 20-25 MPG and can carry a load of 2x4s home. But a Lightning would make it a lot easier. Those sheets of plywood are a b!tch :P

Oh, and it could be built for about half of a new L, not that that is the primary point.

Now play nice, keep this board about tech

Ask yourself, what did you accomplish ?

Wow, some not-so clever text, that you didnt even write yourself, you managed to CUT and PASTE into the forums.

Congratulations genius.

I am interested in a Lightning (soon !) but I promise you, for the price of a stock Lightning (say, $31K) I could build a HONDA that would out perform one in every conceivable way, straight line, road course, the twisties, etc.

There are a lot of idiot kids out there with imports, for sure, and they are easy pickins. So is that how you want to be known as, someone who picks on dumb kids ?

Pick on a well built Civic, say 15 psi turbo. See who shows who their taillights.
You do know its all in good fun right? Congratulations genius.

You forgot: cargo capacity, towing capacity, ability to demolish japanese compacts in a head-on collision, reliability, warranty, ...
good point snoopy. They seem to forget that part...

I thought the original point was hilarious!!! A little humor never hurt anyone.

I think some people just get their panties in a wad too easily.

MODS

I am totally not against mods..I may do some in the future..
But I tell ya what.

I never have respected the "MOD" as much as I did the manufacturer for making something perform in the first place.

How bout the Old Chevelle's, Hemi's, Dodge Chargers, Goats.
Vettes and the best of all the Shebly Cobra 427??

I mean the people that bought these cars for anywhere between 3,000 and 12,000 new could have modded them to make them faster but the bottom line is you always knew what was faster from the factory.

The L is faster from the factory than the civic's etc etc. It is really cool that we can pay for things and make things faster..That is the core of racing I guess.

But it is also cool when a company takes a V-8 and makes it bad *** from the factory like the old days..

That is the lure of the L and the SS Camaros and The Vettes and the Firebirds..Muscle..Muscle Muscle..The ricers have to put way more money in their cars to make them faster than we do..

Because bottom line is this..And remember it...
"YOU CANT BEAT CUBIC INCHES"

Take a 4cyl..and a V-8.give them the same money to spend and who will win??

But to each his own..Dont bash me rice man...Your points are valid, But so are everyone else's..If you cant take a little humor..I aint buying you a beer at the bar..

Matt

No flame intended, but this is a fine example of why I rarely frequent this site anymore. It is difficult for someone that grew up during the years of the true muscle cars to communicate with todays youth.

DEIMATT, when you said ""YOU CANT BEAT CUBIC INCHES" it reminded me of a saying i saw for a bumper sticker or something like that. Its said "there's no replacement for displacement" or something like that. But then again, the ricer boys have a valid arguement for that statement that i'm not even gonna say, we'll see if they will figure it out.

LOL harley..

I was at a dealership parking lot one time..They had a cone course set up..This must of been 8 years ago..This little Honda hatchback..that was set up by a specialty shop was killing everyone..Actually it was really impressive..I didnt know they could be that fast at the time.

Anyway..This 72 Camaro pulled up with a 454(open header)..The annoucer was making fun of it..He Killed everyone..He was slow in the turns but would smash the straights..I laughed and Laughed and I thought it just reinforced the theory..

Hell if it wasnt for the 80's gas crunch this wouldnt even be an issue..Not to mention the overpopulation of the small world countries and the need for economy..LOL

And the DDAY bomb and us giving Japan all that US steel to try to make up for it..

ANyway...Cubic Inches people..Muscle cars are what they are all based off of..

We just bought my wife an 03 Acura CL 3.2 Type S. It will do a 14.4 quarter with it's 5 speed auto stick. What are your options if you want a 2 door sport coupe, not much. It is a damn nice car. Granted it's FWD and I'm not crazy about that but it's her car. And the nice thing about it is it will keep up with most stangs and eat the new Marauder for lunch. At any rate, I'd agree with the riced out cars but I'd bet that more of this Acura is built in the US than most our F150's are.
