Grammar and Spelling
for what it's worth, it was a pretty good Tuesday Night Rant.
Glad it wasn't me that took the heat.
By the way, it's Tuesday!
Here's a subject, Math. Sic'em!

What a relief!!
So grammar and spelling isn't always right on this board.
7 years of english lessons down the drain,I thought.
My spelling is ok, I think.
The construction of sentences is the most difficult part for me.
You all should try German grammar.
the man (der Mann)
I have talked to the man (ich habe mit dem Mann gesprochen)
the woman (die Frau)
I have talked to the woman (Ich habe mit der Frau gesprochen)
the House (das Haus)
My wife was in the house (Meine Frau war in dem Haus)
or (Meine Frau war im Haus)
So easy.

Do I think correct spelling and grammar are important on this board?
Nine, Ich glauba Nict!
I only want to say it helps communicate better, no matter where it takes place.
Do I think that correct spelling and grammar are ever important?
Ya!
Everything has a proper place and time to happen, but I don't think this board is the best or even the proper place though. I will not be commenting on anyone's spelling or grammar useage on this board as I need too much help myself.
Since I need lots of help then I need lots of practice and so I'll take the opportunuty every chance I get to better myself. This is just my personal view and I will never judge anyone based on correct spelling and grammar unless it's appropriate to do so, but not on this board. Only problem with no comments is learning takes feed back and sometimes it's just not what we want to hear but we learn and some can move on.
It's funny though:
1. We can tell someone that they referenced the wrong transmission in their truck
2. Spec'd out the wrong tires
3. Used the wrong motor oil
4. Described a procedure incorrectly
5. Said tie bar and meant torsion bar
6. Said that RPMs have nothing to do with engine performance, it's the gearing and tire OD
7. Called someone by the wrong name or call sign
8. Told someone, I didn't say that, someone else did
9. Your truck doesn't weigh 4000 lbs, it's 5000 lbs
10. You shouldn't correct someone's spelling or grammar on this board and stop doing it!
To me, they are all forms of correcting someone's mistake or trying to sway them to change, but by god you'd better not correct their spelling or grammar 'cause you might offend them needless to say you might have taught them something too. I'm done but I will return to read 'cause there is too much other stuff I'd rather be doing.

Impressive
I do indeed find it truely impressive how some folks find other folks short comings so they can just simply hide their own.. Get over it and get on with the show life's way to short to harp this to death.
did i say that
did i say that
My dad was born in the twenties. back then kids didn't go to school very long because they worked the family farm. He did make it to the sixth grade though. Even though he didn't make it to high school he was one of the best and smartest mechanics I know. As long as you know what the question or statement is,go with it.
I've waited long enough....
...to reply to this post.
I happen to be one of those who, what I hoped would be, constructively critical of some of the posts. The post I replied to was regarding "college roomies" and thier inability to pick up after themselves. I thought the lack of correct spelling and grammar by college students to be very amusing. Intentionally hurt someone in a public format, nuh-huh!

Like fourhour, I as well have waited and thought - I am NEVER going to get involved with this. I would like to see this thread die a quick death!
We address this website to talk trucks and other good stuff (I think, maybe not). If a postee is gramatically correct or not is not important to me and I will not criticize anyone for their incorrect spelling.
I would just like to see a postee -
(A) - do a search, if they have a problem.
(B) - ask a question in the proper forum.
(C) - If they ask a question, give the make, model and year. (OK - so I'm an old parts guy, or to be politicaly correct - an aftermarket automotive repair parts co-ordinator)
(D) - Get out of this stuff and on with the REAL IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE - Like what is the best Chick Magnet you have owned, or - find a way to top Raoul - stuff like that.
(E) - If you want a Degree goto university.com
My $.02 (Canadian)

Good topic. I see it as a way to improve over time. My typing speed has improved and I will get out the dictionary to correctly spell a word here and there. I will never be a punctual as some of you, and ask your forgiveness in this matter.
I tell you what really gets me. I will take an ordinary word like "fish" and spell it with letters reversed like "fsih". Drives me nuts! I will make this mistake two or three times in a typical paragraph, sometimes I will catch it, sometimes I will not. End of rant.
