Can't buy liquor with CHL

So I took my parents car into town to pick up a bottle of vodka. In doing so, I left my drivers license/wallet in my truck (woops). However, I always carry my 1911 and keep my CFL with the gun.

So I walk into the store and get asked for ID. He stares at my CFL and asks what it is. I inform him that it is a government-issued photo ID with my photo and birth date clearly visible, as well as tamper-proof reflective Florida watermarks on it. He says he cannot sell because he has to scan drivers licenses. WTF? What if you don't have a drivers license? I forgot the law states "21 years or older with a valid drivers license"

I've noticed stores wont take ID's like that. I had one a few years ago that wouldn't take my FL state repo license and it looks just like your CFL.

They won't take expired licenses either. My brother got kicked out once.

Dont feel bad, I went to buy a bottle of wine at Kroger and when asked for ID produced my police credentials with badge. Was denied, said that I had to produce a license. I asked the clerk which was harder to get, a state ID card or police credentials? He laughed and said apparently a bottle of wine!

Acceptable Forms of ID - Florida
Any State Driver's License
Military ID
Passport or US Passport Card
State-Issued ID Card

A CFL isn't a state-issued ID Card?

Sure is. That is how my CFL class instructor told us, and he was a SWAT team member/Florida Deputy

Even if my CHL isn't an approved form of ID, they wouldn't take anything else other than a drivers license because of that barcode.

I can't speak for other states, but in Oregon a CHL is issued by the Sheriff's Office for the county you live in.

thats a bit odd. Exactly what do they hope to gain by swiping the card? I have NEVER had my drivers license swiped for any purchase requiring valid ID. Publix doesnt even swipe cards, they input the birthdate or merely verify the date and ask for your money. I think the proprietor is fulla-ish and wanted to cover his butt.

Hell, even when I have been asked for 2 forms of ID at the airport, I have shown both my DL and CWP.

Well there is your problem. If you had just shown your 1911 instead of your CFL, you would have had no problem getting your liquor.

Here in NC our cwp doesnt even have our photo. Its made like a business card and you have to go get it laminated. I wish it was a photo ID style.

There's always the loop hole of "they can refuse the sale of alcohol to anyone for any reason"

That being said, if you didnt look like a 15 yr old boy, they probably wouldn't have cared.

Also in Texas the CHL is used as an equal to the DL

Apparently I do. Got carded at a place that has never carded me before. Hell, I got carded for a lotto ticket 2 weeks before my 30th birthday.

All in all, not accepting your other forms of ID just shows how f'd up our governments are.
