Why welfare stinks!
The unemployment MAX within ANY state isn't even close to what ANYONE can live on.
These threads suck big time, - nothing but misinformation.
In Georgia, the maximum weekly benefit is approx. $340/week. The maximum benefit in my home state of Ohio is just under $400/week. I know of several people that could live off of that, indefinitely.

I know people that DO live off of that
max here is about $525 a week. But, you have to make about 45k+ to get that. And if you make that, then $525 a week doesnt cut it.
Living costs and state taxes are some of the highest here.

The people who qualify for the Max definitely cannot afford to live on it. I personally have never gotten unemployment, welfare, student loan, earned income credit or any other form of government aid like a government contracts to buld weapons systems for the defense department. I do think the government oughta help people out who have fallen on hard times though and absolutely do not begrudge those who get help like government contracts or unemployment.
Several people that work for me could easily live on 350-400/week. They have not overspent themselves into debt, and would draw the weekly maximum in unemployment.
Having said all that we have in this thread, let's not confuse welfare with unemployment.

Unfortunately, unemployment has become the new welfare.

It gets real depressing seeing a good number of folks standing on street corners holding up signs "Will work for food".
Then you have those that aren't in this predicament kick them while they're down. It's inhumane, but who cares right ?
We should figure out more ways to help these individuals whom are less fortunate instead of complaining about it.
How about we create an environment that rewards success- not failure, and adjust our corporate tax rates so that companies will want to expand, hire, and keep jobs here. Oh and I won't get started on the negative impact that unionization has had on many industries...

Problem is, half of those don't want anything to do with the "work" part of that equation and another third don't even want the food you bring 'em, they want the "GREEN"!
