No More "Mr. Nice Guy"!
I have been doing my best to break it in. Right now I'm the biggest hold up, the docs are still trying to sort out what's going on in my lower back. They now have narrowed it down to either a broken/chipped/cracked tailbone or piriformis muscle problem. The good news is that I won't be needing back surgery. Until this gets fully sorted I have to take it easy so nothing gets torn up anymore. So far I have looked all over the bike and have not found a phrase I abhor, "Made in China". Some of the small parts might be but all of the major parts are not, I'm very happy about that.
I used the sport legs on some of the longer days of RAGBRAI and they do really work. Once I get back to longer, harder rides I'll pick some more up.
Good luck on the tri! You have your work cut out for you getting ready for it.

Leo, The new 4000's are beautiful!
I've had several Kestrels in my riding life. I had an original 4000 way back when the company first began (1987 or 88). I rode it thousands of miles. Broke it twice, the company replaced it the first time and offered a newer version, the 200 SCI the second time. I broke the 200 twice also, then finally they sent me the one I still ride. I've had this one many years now and love it. It's not as light and pretty as the newer carbon frames, but it gets the job done for me.
Don't worry so much about breakage, I've always tipped the upper end of the carbon fiber scale at 195lbs to 210lbs most of my life on bikes. I've also busted a couple of FSA carbon cranksets (both around the pedal threading). Most of the carbon fiber stuff is rated at 185 or less, anything above that is considered "abusive".

WOW!!!
I was getting the RV ready today for some camping off road fun and ran across some of my old cloths I had stored in it. I can't believe I was this obese.

Here is one before and after.

Oh wait, wrong doper!
los jgger.
I haven't and won't enter any race/s until March 29th 2014.
I have officially registered to do my first 70.3 Ironman Oceanside California.

At the present time I'm attempting to train my legs to pedal 25 mph on my level entry trek bike while I recuperate from a minor shin splint after doing an 18 mile run in 3 hrs. 8 min.

Hello fellows, just stopped by to say hello and to update my thread for those of you who are wondering how's my progress.
Well, as some of you know it's been a lil over 2 years that I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2, high blood pressure, hypertension, high levels of LDL, a low HDL, and vitamin deficiency. But after changing my eating habits and went from consuming the “typical American diet” to embracing more of a raw vegan lifestyle; started cycling and working out, I managed to reverse my diabetes within 6 months, lost 70 lbs in the process, took 12 inches off my waist, and all of the medical issues mentioned above were permanently remove from my medical record.
I'm down to a waist 30, 160 lbs, (I've put on 10 lbs of pure lean muscle since then) and for the first time in my life I now possess the ability to choose my own direction in life and where my paths may lead. I control the surrounding influences that inspire and motivate me. My will to succeed is a powerful force and with it, I can now accomplish anything.
A week ago I finished my first 70.3 half IronMan triathlon in Ocean Side, CA. I am now training to do my first full Ironman Lake Tahoe on September 21st 2014 in which I'm looking into qualifying to do the most prestigious of them all, 2015 Kona Hawaii world championship.

Glad to see you post, OG! I didn't know you had all those health issues, I just always assumed to were a bada$$ who ran marathons and had an equally badA truck
Seriously though, not many people are able to successfully receive that "wake up call" and hop to turning their lives around. But, it just goes to show how addicting the natural high from working out can be.

I'm late to this but brother- you are the man! Way to go!
I was one of those washed up former athletes, working behind a desk, putting on weight and slowly dying. I was pre-diabetic, pre-congestive heart failure, and all-around looking and feeling crappy. One day I said no more.
Bought 3 mountain bikes- got 2 teenage boys to join me. Started riding all the time- daily at stretches.
Then did P90X. Then did Rushfit. Then tried T25, but got bored after 3 weeks- launched into P90X3. Still there. In between, I bike when I ain't hunting up in the mountains- up to 9300' elevation, and quit eating crap. Went into high fat, high protein, low carbs- mostly grass fed meat and organic when possible. I'm down 40 pounds, but as stout as a linebacker these days.
Oh, and zero health issues. Screw doctors- hate 'em for all the lies and half truths, and drugs they always wanted to put me on. I wouldn't give an MD the time of day. Worse than lawyers I tell ya.
Dude- you keep rocking! It's guys like you that inspire this 45 year old to keep on keeping on with. I feel easily 15 years younger than I am- or more. I can hang with my teenage boys (16, 19) all day long. Shoot, sometimes I can outdo them! This 45 year old body ain't rolling over yet.
