What is your idle RPM

rpms drop from N to D or R, could be part of it. My stock tuning file (4.6) says Idle Speed Drive 600, Idle Speed neutral 704, and + 48 and + 50 respectively with a/c on.

Once again I agree with Brew. MOST car and truck engines SHOULD run just about dead on the RPM stated. Every vehicle that I've had that has had a tac has run in that approximate range from the time they're new. At 900 or more, you're holding the brake excessively at a stop and at too low an RPM (400-500) the oil flow isn't as much as it shoiuld be. (oil IS a coolant as well as lubricant) The "Sweet Spot" is in the range Brew described all the way around, on a properly tuned and running stock engine.
