What is your idle RPM

in any car truck anything you own with 4 wheels.

my buddy and me got into it after he had had a few drinks and he said "Man your truck and your g/f's truck idle so low you cant even hear them run id think theyd shut off" i said um every car or truck ive been in idles around 550-750 RPM he said "no thats to low and just because your truck and a few others idle there doesnt mean nothing" i said "no thats a pretty normal idle any more than 750 is a waste and any less that 500 it might stall."

my truck is right around 550-600rpm warm idle 97 4.6L F150
my g/f's truck 92 F150 4.9: is right around 600-650.
my buddys 97 5.4L F150 is the same 550-600RPM

not sure what his dakota with the 5.2L is but i guess it must be higher than mine because mine is wayyyy to low.

thoughts?

Ford idles the trucks low to save fuel and also leans out the fuel trims. I have mine set around 640-650 once warm

Idle for the 10 generation NA V8/150's is 730 RPM's. Anywhere from 700 to 750 is good, but 730 is perfect. Makes it easy to tell when a problem exists.

Unless you have screwed with the tune.

I don't think oil has anything to do with idle speed. Its computer controlled.

Never knew of anything that idles that low.. Ive always known the 2v 5.4's to idle close to 700. A few other fords I have owned have been in the 600-700 range that I remember.
