Some vehicles disable certain features unless the vehicle is in park

Having been a truck driver, I've had a lot of close calls, but no accidents.....................One particular story involves me driving home late, maybe 2am and there was a Neon in the right lane. I could only pass so fast but they almost side swiped my truck and trailer twice. I could see the phone glare too. A bit up the road after, I came up to a stop light, no big deal. Was stopped and looked back in the mirror and saw the Neon coming. Looked again and saw them having to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting my trailer. PS we are the only 2 vehicles in sight too. I've done it, really don't like texting to begin. The more you see the affects, the more it pisses me off. It to me is impairing your driving like or worse than being drunk. I'm glad the topic is getting attention, especially in schools. Imagine telling someone your friend died in a horrible accident because they had to text something stupid like "whats up, lol ;0"!!!!

we are all guilty of using our phones on the road at one point or another, and like some of the other posts on this tread, phones aren't the only reason for distracted driving nobody is completely innocent on the issue distracted driving, but there are those that abuse the ***** out of it. Like that little neon driver, why on earth would you be texting at 2am in the first place?!

I was rear ended by a teenage girl while she was texting.... funny thing was it happened at a dwi checkpoint so there were plenty of police around to take the report. This was a couple of years ago.... so the police didn't charge her with distracted driving or etc. What got me was that she was unrepentant and continued her txt conversation while we worked on the police report.

Ya, you said it O.P, there is a lot of distractions. Texting to me is huge though. Eating, not small snacks, but burgers, why? Make-up, dressing, reading? READING!!!!!!! There is in Canada a show called Canada's Worst Driver, you should see the last season, 7 I believe, it's all about distracted bad drivers. It is something to check out for your school topic for sure, deals with a lot of stuff.
