Econoline coming to an end

The Econoline is coming to an end after 2012. Will be replaced by the Transit van.

Sad to see! When I was a kid growing up my dad had a Econoline Club wagon van that the family took trips in. It was very comfortable on the long drives! I think it had a carburated 351 V8!

First the Ranger, now the E-van - I sure hope this doesn't backfire and bite Ford in the ***.

Sad day for Ford. As stated, 2 of the best vehicles they've ever made, Ranger and E-van. Maybe not sexy, but rock solid. The current van (for many years now) is on of the beefeist and solid vans I've ever worked on. Built like a tank, especially in E-250-up. Ranger was not sexy but how many S10's did you ever hear of that could routinely go 250-300K mi. like a ranger could?
My brother had an E-250 15 pass. W/V-10 and what a tank that was.

Ford did it to themselves with the Ranger and Econline. Not updating the body on either one since the early '90's was a big mistake and surely led to poor sales.

How many other vehicles have parts that go back to '92 like the van or '93 like the Ranger?

The E series are good vans. I've been driving them for the past 20 years. I've got to tell you though, from a business stand point, the prospect of a more fuel efficeint van is a good one. We've been trained to believe that $3.25 a gallon is cheap, but it's not when you have to figure that into the cost of doing business.

Nothing last forever. Who knows, maybe when we are ready to retire the '07 E250 that I'm currently driving, we will end up with a T250.

I hope that the Transit is a good vehicle at a reasonable price. It'll help millions of small businesses like the one that I am part of.

Government mandated MPG standards are the reason why the E series is ending. Don't be angry with Ford.

First the ranger now the econoline. GM has announced a new Colorado, Dodge is considering a unibody dakota, Nissan just released the NV van. I guess ford is just giving up pn certain markets. Really it seems they're putting to much emphasis on the F series and mustang.

That's what it seems like. I think it's a bad move getting rid of the Econoline. I see them going down the road all day, it's not like Ford's not selling them. At least around here I'd say 80-90% of companies use the Econoline.
My dad has a construction business and has an extended Econoline E250. There's no way the Transit is big enough to fit all his tools, counter tops, cabinets ect. It's more practical to use than a truck.

Hope you are not confusing the Transit Connect with the Transit. They are 2 different models, with the transit being the larger. The transit has been the top selling van in Europe for 40 years.

I will say they have had some really ugly models in the past.

The Transit is a full size van that will be offered in more than one wheel base. I think that it will compete nicely with the Sprinter and the new Nissan.

Well i hope for the sake of its success that it comes with something a tad beefier than a 3.2 I5 Duratorq engine.

There is a whole series of Transit vans that are sold in Europe. I think there's something like 3 different lengths, some dual rear wheel configurations and several engine options. I would expect to see the 3.7L, EB and possibly a diesel version offered. Ford isn't getting out of the van business, they are just offering a new, updated model.

I just read that there may be plans in calling it "T" series and available to a T550 here in the states! They most definatly will need a substantial engine for it. Honestly i can see it having the same engine choices as the Fseries.

Btw. I wonder if we can get one with those awesome racing stripes and wheels!
