At this stage it is only speculation. As the Transit already in existence has a frame, who knows. For heavier loads equivalent to a e-250 or 350, I would expect a frame, but maybe they have found a way around that.

The article says they are phasing out the E-150 only. They are maintaining production of the 3/4 & 1 ton.

It states the chassis cab is remaining. Then it states the light duty will be replaced. The E-250/350 comes in more than just the chassis cab. With the way they stated it, not sure which way it will be.

This one also states just the chassis cab will stick around.

Hard to fathom them just keeping the cab chassie around. There is a strong demand for the 3/4-1 ton Vans. The transit isnt capable of filling that need and Ford would be stupid to drop the most popular fleet Van with out a replacement.

Ford isn't getting out of the van business, they are just changing the name. Transit is a brand name for Ford commercial vehicles. They range from a Fiesta with a box up to BIG panel vans, chassis cabs, double chassis cabs, passenger vans, RVs etc. They also have 3 or 4 different roof heights available per model. Something the E-series doesn't offer.

The current E-150, 250 & 350 has a maximum cargo length at the floor of 122.4" and 142.4 on the Extended model"

The Transit van has 4 maximum cargo lengths of 2,582mm (101.7"), the medium is 2,949mm (116.1"), long is 3,399mm (133.8") and the jumbo is 4,122mm (162.3").

It's has been said several places the new van will get the 3.5L EB which has 60 more Hp than the current 6.8L V10 and the same torque. Since the E-Series is listed as a commercial vehicle mileage numbers are not posted. However, it's not much of a stretch to see the EB picking up ton of mileage versus the V10.

If you drive a van for work this is a good thing for you. You will be getting a much more flexible modern vehicle that already has a ton of aftermarket support.

In the F-150 the EB is rated at up to 11,300 I doubt the van version will be far off this. I knock down 17-18 on winter gas and drive it like I stole it. If you want a diesel Ford van you better hit the used lots. The 7.3L went out of production in 2004 and the 6.0 died in 2009. The larger Transits might be worked to fit the 6.7L to compete with the Dodge Sprinter if there's enough market for it.

If your lying in the back of an ambulance, are you really going to give a flying f what it looks like on the outside?

If you'd rather, I'm sure that Dodge and Mercedes would be more than happy to fill in the "gap" left by the exit if the long running E series. Maybe you'd like to see Nissan take a chunk of the market as well?

I've got to say, as someone who has been driving these Ford vans for several years, it's hard to understand why people are so bent out of shape over Fords decision to FINALLY update thier full size van. If they didn't the competition would continue to blow the doors off that old E series.

I agree

A lot of y'all are acting like you are breaking up with your girlfriend.

What it really is like is you're dumping her for a hotter, younger one that's a better cook and more willing in the sack. How is this a bad thing?

Only thing I ever liked about the e-series were the saginaw p-steering pumps they had on them. Direct swap onto a old body style ford trucks. 1 finger steering!

Ford has announced there will be a diesel option on the transit van in addition to the 3.5l eco-boost. No other details other than it will be offered.
