Money Talks But Mine Only Learnt To Wave Good Bye.
Once again, as I prepare to pour concrete for my RV's parking pad I'm also preparing to have a new, bigger and wider gate fabricated and installed.

I try not to do anything half *** so I search through google and found some designer gates.
I like this one but didn't want to have the same exact design......

So I modified it and took the center piece off of this gate and PSed it onto what I was trying to create.

I then finished it off with the swans I liked on this set of gates.

After I finished my final design I asked for an estimate and the fellow laughed and said "boy oh boy, you sure have very expensive taste!"
I said well how much are we talking for something as simple as this:

He took his calculator out and starting punching number like crazy, I was like......
...... few minutes later he goes, that would be $6800 but if you want us to install it that would be another $800. My eyes about pop out its sockets...
.... now does that price include the Vaseline or do I have to bring my own, I asked. " Nope, you have to provide you own", he replied.
Well how much for this one then:

"Minus the swans, take off $1800 of the price I gave you." Still that is $5800 with installation I replied.
OK how much for something like this:

"Minus $2500 off of $5800, that would be $3300 including installation." But still no Vaseline right, I added. "Nope." he retorted.
I shopped with 3 other rod iron fencing and gate companies and all came way higher than Mr. 小寶 / 小宝 (Chungwanlow).
So I placed the order for the $3300 one.

K-Mac - That looks WAY too classy! I was going to suggest a simple "chain link" gate with the nice, plastic privacy strips. Add a couple of pink, plastic flamingos to the lawn, and, you're good to go!
Seriously though, OG, that kind of work costs a bundle! I have no doubt though that YOUR result will be very stylish indeed!

Thought you did a bunch of welding, or did you have a guy to do that stuff ?
If you have a good welder, find a local powder coat shop, and find out what it would cost to have it powder coated, and what size they can take, and what prep needs to be done.
This would be for something closer to what you have installed already, not the scroll work.
The one stop shop with the scroll work ( time to form it ) gets a good amount of labor costs with that. The gate like you had for 3K still seems a bit on the high side to me, but I don't know what EPA impact fees you have in CA.
CA is the cause of us not being able to get FD-51 anymore.

OG, I have a contractor friend that knows a Blacksmith with a shop in Mexcio. The guy does excelent work and comes up here often. His quality beats ANYONE I've seen around here.
PM me if you are interested and I'll see if I can get the two of you together.

I'm not building a border fence, that is the kind of "good enough government fence" you'd find at the United States – Mexico border, why do you think we have an illegal immigration problem, lol.
Well of course not, not right now right now. Right now right now, the actual bank has the money.

Just kidding Frank, but you right people have no idea what those "little" items cost, it adds up QUICKLY.
@ JackandJanet
Yes I found out the scrolling design is the most expensive pieces cause they are made to order. Quite a bit of work goes into it.

No sir, I don't have any welding skills, almost all the welding done on my truck has been done by wicked creations. I've done some welding but that is if you want to call it "really" welding. But, some day I will have the time to practice some more and get good at it.
But yes, if I had the welding skills and the time to do it, I would have done it myself.
Just as there are a lot of things I can do, there are many things I can not do too....well.....lets say that at the moment I lack the experience to do so. I have the power to do everything that is possible but as everything in life, most skills require hard work very hard work. Which is how I became good at what I do now. I've worked countless amount of hours, besides normal working hours, without pay which a the time I viewed it as paying to school myself. The knowledge I have obtained through hard work is now paying dividend.
@ jgger
Thank you Sir for the offer but as I said in my first post, I have signed the contract to have Mr. 小寶 / 小宝 fabricate it for me.
@
Yes Sir. I am making sure of that. The pad will be made out of a 6" industrial grade crack resistant concrete, plus, I'm not only adding wire mesh but I'm also making 18x18 squares of 1/2" re-enforcing bar since I live in a state with earthquake activity.

Hey OG if you paint the gate as opposed to powder coat you can add the Swans later. (Much easier to patch)If you think you want to do that let me know and I'll see if I can get you in touch with that Blacksmith.
Cool, yeah, I'll keep that in mind and once again thanks for the offer. That is what I was planning on doing. Even though powder coating lost a lot longer it still would need maintenance in the long run. For which reason I planned on painting it myself that way if I want to add anything else to it later, as you said "much easier to patch.
I'll keep you posted.
By the way, when I get the the RV situated here at home, I'll be having a get-together with members of this and other forums I frequent at and toast for the new "Guest Home". I'm hoping you can make it, if I need to go pick you up I'd be happy to do so.
