do you have to do a Cut & Turn on the front housing when you set it up for SOA?

no not yet at least. i've seen samurais big enough to clear 39.5's and they didn't have to turn the axle. you have to get a cv style driveshaft though out of a toyota. once you go any bigger than that though im pretty sure it's necessary to cut and turn the front axle.

i got this part of the lift done and i ordered some 3in. lift leaf springs for it today so i'll have the suspension pretty much done after they get here and i'll order the steering.

has anyone ever ran super swamper ltb's? i've seen where a lot of people say they are better than boggers in mud and im not sure if the samurai will have enough power to properly turn boggers now. another big thing is they are about 3/4 the price of boggers.

anywho pic:

what size tire are you going with? what are you plans with axles?

as for tires, are you only going to be doing mud? or more trails and explorations? any street driving?

if i get boggers it will be the 33x12.5x15's. the ltb's will be 33x13.5x15's.

im really leaning towards the ltbs for a few reasons. the axles may get gears now or the transfer case i haven't decided yet but they will both get lockers after i get tires. they will also get chromoly eventually after i break them. these tires don't have to last at all on the road because they will only go to town every once and awhile. anywhere over like 10 miles away i will tow the samurai with my truck. this samurai will be about 99% mud although me and my buddies do have a lot of land that is hunting trails that i will probably ride on eventually.

why not go to a toyota axle upgrade instead of dumping a lot of money into those axles? i know it's a fairly popular swap for sammi's. be a little stronger than those axles as well, and give you a little wider stance.

tire choices are tough between those to. are you pretty much set on super swamper brand? have no experience with the ltb's, my one experience with boggers i was a little disappointed, but most of the issue was the kid driving the truck. on a sammi though i would bet you could get almost anywhere with bald radials.

yeah i know its a pretty common swap to toyota's and i proabably will eventually, after a year or so i want to lift the samurai very big and run 39.5's. that'll be a lot of time and money down the road though. that's why i'll probably regear the transfer case first. i have seen though some fully upgraded sami axles running 44 inch tsls and 49 inch iroks without breaking in mud. the mud helps a lot with axle breakage.

yeah im pretty set on super swampers since this truck has no need for a road tire so i might as well go all out and get the best mud tire. from what i've hear ltbs are supposed to be almost equal to boggers in mud but you have to have a lot of power to clean out boggers, which a samurai doesn't have.

its got those bald radials on it now and can go through almost every mud hole at my house that we use to play in in my truck, it's crazy but awesome.

i've been still driving it around in the mud having a blast and i ordered the next 3 inches of lift (3inch lift leaf springs). they should be here this friday. i also am about to talk to my tire guy about some 33x13.5x15 ltbs.

oh and heres a few pictures one of my friends took the other day. i'll try to get the video from her. she took one of my crossing the creek behind my house. well its been flooding here so water is a little high. it came over the hood and actually picked the samurai off the ground. kind of scared me but made it across the creek.

well i made a lot of progress today. my front leafs came in so i put them under it. i ran into a few problems though that i figured i would. the stock steering will no longer work so i'll have to order an OTT steering set up, also the rear drive shaft pulled out so it needs some spacers. other than that it went great. cant wait to get some 33 inch ltbs
