How to pass an (NC) inspection with illegal window tint....
Go register it in a county that doesn't have emissions.
How can you go and register it in another county? I don't know if they even need to be inspected by the county it's registered in, though I thought it did before.
Texas doesn't do emissions everywhere, just in certain counties.

Looks like you could use your school address.

The following counties require vehicles to undergo emissions testing: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson and El Paso counties.
Just talked to muh momma and I'm gonna get the title put in my name, new black and white plates (changed them recently from hideous blue ones), and re-register it in Brazos county where A&M is so I can get it inspected there. Yay for Texas! I definitely thought more counties had emissions testing, but even then it's just OBDII.
Thanks a bunch for that. I'll try rolling my windows down and unplugging the switch as far as tint is concerned.

I just failed NC state inspection today. Station said my tint was 23%. It has to be no darker than 35%. Now the dilemma... do I remove the tint or do I try another station. I hate to keep looking for a place to pass me because it costs at least ~$35 each inspection. Any NC residents with advise?

I got my "hot and heavy duty" sticker by doing that today today

Huh, well my family is moving anyway, so I might as well re-register it to my own address when I change the title. That's interesting though, but it's taken care of until next year.
I know. The tint originally cost me ~$65 in 2008 when I lived in KS (no inspection needed). So I got almost 6 good years out of it. I didn't want to keep taking a chance and paying the price for inspections, so I just removed it. I may end up getting 35% put back on.
I know how you feel. Between the tint and lack of cats, both of which wouldn't be THAT expensive to take care of, the extra cost is somewhat justified. But even then, it stings a bit knowing it's an every year thing. I also like circumventing the law though
