My Dog Died Today
My little Mikey died today, they all went outside for a bit, then when they came in, Mikey went into his crate and took a nap, poor guy never woke up.
My wife found him a few hours ago and came running downstairs to get me. I was pretty cool and collected until I dropped him off at the vet's to get cremated, and then when I got in my truck alone, I started bawling like a little girl.
The good news is, if there's ever a good way to die, Mikey chose the best way, surrounded by his other furry friends, and people who loved him.
The old guy was 15 years old, almost blind and nearly deaf but he was still my little buddy and I loved him to pieces.
He had several niknames over the years, mostly Mike the garbage picker & peabody.
I know he had a good life and he was well loved but I am still pretty choked up as I write this.

Sorry to hear about Mikey. I know my Buddy is on borrowed time. He should have been gone 5 years ago, but is still thinking he just a puppy even at 10 years old.
It's hard to lose a good friend and companion. I have no idea how I'll handle it. Probably the same way I did when we buried 2 16 year old cats.

My condolences Habs, losing a pet is hard stuff. I lost my first dog to cancer (Golden Retriever) when I was 20. I cried like a little girl too. I am not looking forward to the day that my parents Golden Retriever or my Yellow Lab passes, shes 6 so hopefully it won't be for a long time.
Here is a poem that I ran across on the internet:
Here is a poem that I ran across on the internet:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
