So it is just a matter "attention whoring" is why people use them, even though they know they are illegal? The stock horn is loud enough to get someone's attention IMO, & the laws too, otherwise they would make them louder off the assembly line.

Thanks to you who posted a honest helpful reply.
I love my train horns. If someone cuts me off, give them a little beep. See an old friend, honk. Its all in good fun. if people are gonna hate, to hell with them.

i'll toss mine in.

I want to be heard, you cut me off and I want to shove my front bumper into your decklid so you get out and I can kick your ***. Instead I want the option to watch them fill shorts on the freeway, like the guy I almost got loaded up onto my car trailer when he was tailgating me.

Does that get my reason out there?

Besides, I've never heard a tractor trailer, ambulance, or fire truck with a train horn... all of those vehicles have a specifically different sound that is recognizable by most motorists. Can a passenger vehicle legally and morally equip themselves with an ambulance warbler or fire engine horn and expect to not draw criticism?

Just making a counter point.
Well played sir

I guess the point I was trying to make is they still have the same shock affect. I have yet to see someone drive into a tree because I blew the airhorn on my ambo. I've seen plenty of OTR trucks with airhorns that have no problems using them.

If you can't drive and react to a loud noise, you shouldn't be driving.

OK I can see your point of messing around at a car show or something like that. I did not think of that, cause my truck is a truck to me. When I think of car shows, I think of old muscle cars, not new vehicles.

I hear you on "if that is how they want to spend their money" thing too.

I have no record of an actual situation, but from reading some of the posts & replies of train horns & knowing how people are so unfamiliar with their surroundings anymore I could see it happening.

Anytime it is used in a traffic setting it is being used for an illegal purpose though. Same with these train horns.

Thanks for your point of view thejake1989.

Agreed!

I don't think that's going to be implemented anytime soon though. Idiots can and will drive all over the damn place. Sometimes I think they'll give a license to anyone. Hell, my state allows illegal immigrants who can't read English to have a valid driver's license, but that's an entirely different discussion.

You should try driving in DC I'm lucky I don't have to drive a small honda or something. It's basically a giant game of bumper cars when you get on the beltway

and don't even get me started about illegals driving all over the place without insurance or valid drivers license

I completely agree. There are a lot of people out there that can't & should not be driving, whether they are in cars/trucks with normal horns, or OTR drivers with air horns.

I do not completely agree with the statement about the fire trucks & ambulances & their horns. These vehicles have sirens & lights as a pre warning of their presence. The air horns should be the last resort IMO, but I am not a driver of either & therefore not trained on the proper use of each different warning system.

There is also a big difference between semi air horns & train horns.

now this might change the view in some way. i just remembered we forgot 18 wheelers. big rigs use airhorns as their horns in everyday legal driving.

only difference is some of the legit train horns are going to be louder or have a different pitch but the smae concept

Ok ok I'll contribute. I can see where they would be annoying and if used in the wrong environment outright disrespectful. Otherwise they are pretty cool and I would like to add a set to my truck-to be used not abused that is

I never said they were legal... neither are my tinted tails, window tint, windshield tint, hid's, spot lights, the pistol i keep in there, so what? I use my horns. They were well worth the price. plus onboard air is quite nice too.
