Works for me. Stuff happens sometimes. Does anyone really think BP wants the spill to continue? They're just losing money, product and gaining bad press.
How can the US dictate financial damages to a foreign company? Especially when there is a law in place that already caps oil spill damages, at much, much less?
IMHO, anyone that thinks BP is some horrible giant corporation that only hurts people need to STHU, or give up all petroleum products; gasoline, heating oil, waxes, etc. Oh yeah, don't drive on any asphalt roads either. And give up your hybrid too, it's full of petroleum based plastics.
Sometimes accidents happen. It's more important to solve the problem and move on than it is to point fingers and lay blame. Too bad nobody seems to be in charge right now.

You're talking black and white. The real answer is somewhere in the grey area.
I don't believe that you should demonize and attempt to destroy a company that provides the world's fuel.
Let's all sue the crap out of BP and make them pay, bankrupt those SOBs! Then they'll be in the perfect position to attempt to fund any kind of salvage or clean up operations.
Don't get me wrong, it's a horrible thing that's happened, and many many people will be affected. But don't blame BP. Blame the politicians who forced BP to have to drill at extreme depths where divers, with tried tested methods, would be unable to assist in case of emergency. Blame the lack of response to the incident, not the incident itself (unless you're one of those rare few who live a petroleum free lifestyle, that means no food transported by gasoline or diesel, truck or train, either!). Blame the people who refuse to let the US drill on our own soil, where spills are rare and much more containable. But don't blame the company that keeps our world moving, because without them, you'd probably wither up and die.

He happens to be from the number one oil producing state. Why wuould you expect him to not support the oil producers? Who would you think he should get campaign funds from other than his constituents?

I guess you see what you want to see. I did not see that. What I saw in some of the other congressmen was total stuipity as to how a corporation works. They seemed to think the pres of the corporation should have been out there on the ship making all the decisions and had he been it would not have happened. That is pure ignorance. I'm not saying that BP did not fail and did not make mistakes, I'm only saying the congressmen are a bunch of grandstanding idiots that don't have a clue.

Ask NOT what you can do for your country.
A$k what YOU can do for your corporation.
Looks like Barton is up for re-election in 2010. I just hope the people of Texas’s 6th congressional district don't forget this in November. Remember to vote! Our political toilet needs flushing!

As are many other worthless politicians, POTUS included (too bad we can't vote on that for another 2+ years), who deserve a swift kick in the seat.
