Also, if you own a furniture store or anything of the like... and need to sell a couch to help get you out of this recession, forget about the second person helping move the couch... we are not a team.
This afternoon I moved a large plush couch and armchair from the den to the outside of my house, all by my lonesome. Once outside I picked up both and carried them above my head to where I was putting them since we are getting rid of them. I needed no help because I am intelligent enough to know how to move things by myself.

Well I'm not too big and have a bad back so I can't throw a couch over my head. Once the back heals up I might be able to sling a love seat around. But, I have lots of friends and neighbors that can be bribed with cold beers so I will not be needing the assistance of the US Furniture Relocation and Removal Department. If the Feds are on the team count me out, I've seen their version of teamwork and want nothing to do with it.

Willie Nelson's Farm Aid comes to mind. The Goberment handled that money with more red tape and black ink than Willie proffered. When he criticized, he got shamed and busted.

Don't know how it got to this, but -

I'm a pretty independent guy threw to the end, but I don't get how it became a point to brag that it's just easier to deal with a task yourself these days rather then be able to ask a fellow to help.

To the blue-collar workers who may be out of the job -

I am a blue-collar myself, when did job security come with my blue-collar? Unions ain't going to help you here. I watched the video in that NY Times link, I just played my violine. "Had to tell my 18 year old son "You might need to help DADDY pay for groceries.", that old fart obviously didn't take enough care of himself if he's that old(he appears to be 50+, and he claims that loosing his job at this point will ruin his life.

It's odd how in the past years I've met more 50 +/- year old cry babies then CRYING BABIES. And they claim to be the 'hardened' ones.

About BP -

I agree with a lot of the comments and stopping with the shake down tactics and just move to get a solution and clean it up, but I would definatley say the should be held accountable to properly compsate the families who lost members in the explosion, beyond that, telling me that an Rigger or a Fisherman deserves compansation due to this seems a little hypocritical because I don't believe any construction workers, realtors etc put out of work because of the housing bubble recieved any compensation, nor the people who lost a large chunk in the stock market crash... we all choose are paths, we can't just expect to be bailed out cause it "Wasn't my fault."

Take aways a Mans means to support himself, and even the toughest will whine. When you can't feed your family, it could make a grown man cry. Not for himself, but for the young ones that simply do not understand

Why would they want to give bailouts... we have to fix this country on our own.

Just so y'all know don't feel too bad for the shrimpers. Many are now employed by BP making as much or more than they did before the spill. Many in areas that have not been closed off to shrimping are still not going out because they can make a lot more from cleaning oil than they can from shrimping.

As far as life being a team sport, I agree. However we are not team USA. We are many teams of families. The left has been attempting to turn this country into team USA. The exact opposite of what the country was founded on and what made it so great. If someone in the family was having problems they turned to family for help. The left decided to do everything it could to have the federal government provide the assistance that family used to provide. This has led to the destruction of the family and an arguably weaker society.

I do very much agree with you, it's a scary thought and I think a lot of us have had the experience of an unexpected turn or uncertain future, one that usually gets solved rather early but still makes you wonder "What if..". But the last thing that's going to help is whining.

I heard BP has finally found a solution.

They are going to place a large wedding band around the well and pretty soon it will stop putting out....
