At home I have Cable lynx, I think I'm paying for 4 meg download, for about a week I'm lucky is I get 140k.
I'm beginning to wonder if there is not a problem with the net itself, if that is possible.
It would be more computer related i would think. Even if you are running Norton download malwarebytes and use it with norton and i bet ya malwarebytes will find stuff that norton hasnt, ive seen several computers after the malwarebyte scan they run alot better.

I've had great luck with AVG finding things and keeping me out of trouble. Is it fault free? No, none of them are no matter what you pay. Any new virus is going wreck any anti-virus until the maker writes an update to counter it. I will not have Norton on anything I own. It has caused more problems than it has ever fixed. I've also found A Squared Free to be a much better scanner than MalwareBytes. Downside to A Sq Free is that it can take hours for it to run and the updates are huge. I also run daily the free Advanced System Care programs and love their Smart Defrag.

Might wanna look them over and see if they have value to you too.

Norton caused so many problems on my computer! It was absolutely horrible...it wouldn't let my internet through my phone work on my computer...even the tech support had no idea how to fix it...it was crap!

I love the free antivirus programs...i haven't had any problems so ill stick to them!

I followed your advice, and downloaded malwarebyte last night. I did a full scan, an dit found 8 more assorted little demons. But it has not helped my connection speed any.
I'm starting to think my modem is going out. I've gone to the cable lynx support site, and read about everything there. I think there is either a problem with the modem or the signal coming into the house. The cable television work flawlessly. But the INTERNET sux. Thanks for the help.

If some one has a suggestion that I may have overlooked fell free to chime in.

My OS is Vista My Son has another laptop with Vista that is doing only slightly better. My wife. and Stepson have desktops, that are running xp. But last night mine was the only computer that was turn on. So I don't think the network was overloaded.

My machine has been defraged(once a week), disc cleanup(once a week), deleted cookies and history, again scheduled maintenance..The lynksys router seems to be functioning right. I called the ISP support yesterday, but they offered no help other than pinging the modem to say it was on line.

I've been over and over the connection protocols, and just can't find anything.

My Stepdaughter had a similar "Virus Warning" malware program infecting her computer. I installed AdAware (the free version) on the computer and it cleared it up immediately.

I use the free versions of ZoneAlarm and AdAware on all my computers, and have the free version of Avast on one of my laptops. Never had a problem. I use Sophos Antivirus on most of my PCs though, because by being associated with a University, I was able to get it through site license.

I absolutely agree with KingRanchCoy. There are some excellent free antivirus/anti-malware programs available, and I've seen too many problems that are CAUSED by programs such as Norton and McAfee.

And, I like AdvancedSystemCare and CCleaner too.

2 things are stoping me from completely wiping it.

First is all my pictures and videos. I have a crap load, and it took me forever to organize them .
Second is all my songs. If I delete them, how do I get them back on my cpu. I have an ipod, and an iphone, and I don't think you can transfer songs from the phone/pod to the computer.

Then it does sound like a network problem one thing to "try" is pull the power plug on your internet modem for about 30 seconds and let it reset and plug it back in. Just see if that works, if it speeds it back up for a little bit then more than likely your internet modem is taking a crap, ive seen that happen a few times. Another thing, alot of people like norton but i have seen it cause alot of problems, maybe delete your norton and put avg on it and that may fix your problem. Norton takes a lot of resources and makes the computer run very slow, alot of people dont like to ditch norton cause they have paid for the yearly subscription fee and dont want to loose the money on it.

I don't like Norton either. It came with the system, and I just never removed it. I'm now have an adobe flash movie player error. So I'm trying to track it down, but it's kind of hard to do anything with the net moving so slow,
I click on a link and go do something else, then come back and check on it
I thought my wifes pc wasn't effected, but it seems to be slow now. I guess when I ran the speed test on it was at a time when things were doing well. Now it is below 56 k. I remember when I thought that was fast. No wonder I'm gray headed, it was from waiting on dial up

I took your advice and loaded the AVG anti-virus and am very impressed so far. I unloaded the Norton 360 and my computer seems much faster now. Pages download quicker than they ever have also!

Thanks!

Good to hear, one thing to check out is usually when you remove norton it doesnt remove everything only way to get everything removed is download the norton removal tool and that will get everything norton off your computer.Just type it in google and it will take you to the right site. I think you will like AVG and just for extra precautions download malwarebytes. Malwarebytes and AVG work great togather

Never use Norton it just causes more problems. Avast, Avira, or Kapersky are all great free programs. I've always used Avast and never had problems or a virus.
