I like the Exploder. It's a nice ride. I actually got the GF to trade in her vue for an 06 mountaineer about 2 years ago. I love that thing. I call it the fat old man ride.

my mom's 09 explorer is not bad, has the 6 cylinder, and has plenty of pep...

gets 18/19 mpg, not bad for a comfortable ride that wont kill us..

3rd row seat is very nice also

I also think the current explorers have been wayy overlooked by consumers...they look pretty sharp imo - along with the sport trac
And the 4.6l has 292 hp and gets 21-22 mpg; I think they're one of the better looking SUVs out there right now and the interior looks/feels pretty nice.

hmmm...projectors with LED tails, unibody for 25% better gas mileage. sounds like a good deal. i think Ford is trying to up their CAFE number so they can keep the 6.2L and 5.0L coyote on schedule

Screw CAFE standards...

Ford should keep their current frame design for the Explorer.

For once, I think I can say in the 2009 M/Y Explorer is not an "Exploder"...

If they are really going to make it a unibody -- It's returning to "Exploder" in my books.

Let me guess no more V8 and its going to be a class II only capable of 3,500 lbs like 3/4 of Ford's vehicles...
Whoever buys an Explorer to tow needs his head examined.

Why? From rants and reviews, I've heard it is great for towing especially with the 6 speed automatic (which was way before the F150's time).

As long as it isn't equiped with Firestone Tires, we are all set.

Actually, speaking of Cherokees (Grand Cherokee), back in high school in the '03- '04 era, my buddy's father owned a big business, so of course he had an only son that was spoiled to all high hilt, and his dad got him a '04 4.7 HO, Grand Cherokee with the Quadra-Trac AWD system... that thing was sick! He pulled out a stuck F-350 in jammed in a bed of ice (the wheels of the F350 were encased in ice). He didn't even yank, he just got the straps tight, and then just gave it some gas, just slipped a little bit, but as soon as the system figured out what to do, it had that big truck out in no time.

Unfortunantly he crashed it, which is a shame because his daddy spent close to $50k on it.

I'm confused. You say unibody sucks, but your buddy's unibody Grand Cherokee was sick? Unibody can't tow well, but is strong enough to pull out an F350 with it's wheels encased in ice?

IIRC I believe those had actual c-channel frames... don't know, but it was amazing to watch.

Are people really surprized when truck based vehicles are put on the chopping block? Just wait. We're being funneled into driving vehicles that are "friendlier" to the environment. Wait a few years and see what automakers are offering us. We'll be happy if we can find something with more than four cylinders.

I drive an Edge right now. I miss having a truck, though I drive an E250 for work. It's weird have a FWD, but over all the Edge is a good vehicle. I think that a lot of people will be nudged into buying a different type of vehicle. The automakers are going to have to build vehicles that fit the bill.

Nope. They're unibody.

And they never cost $50k. If his dad actually paid anything close to $40k, he got hosed.

Regardless...

I think it was $40k loaded, but his daddy put rims, system, tires, exhuast on it.

Spoiled brat... then he crashed it.

I wish someone would've given it to me.
