Any Volkswagen people here?

Well, the GF is about to buy a new car, and is stuck between the Eos, and the Tiguan.
Eos is the Lux package, and is a 09 left over. Dealer said they would do 31,500 on it.

Tiguan is a 2010 wolfsburg package with sunroof, and they are asking 30,500.
Think they would go down on the price on these? She is paying cash, so I figured that would help with the bargining. Also, any info on either? Good thing, bad things? They both have the 2.0T (turbo). I don't really know much about VW, so I don't want here to get something that has problems. Any help is appreciated.

Nice vehicles, we had a Jetta it had the best factory system in it Ive heard in any vehicle. It was super quick (turbo) but the down side was when it started to wear and tear. It started to wear and tear you a new aa.. well you get the point.

Honestly I love VW's and my wifes wants one of those Tiquans but if I ever own another one I will get one of those extended warrentys. Good luck and pics when purchased!

Yea, they're both really nice, and ride extremely well. I just want to make sure she is getting a good deal.

dealers normally make more money off of a finance so telling them you are paying with cash wont always get you the best offer. negotiate without telling them how you will pay.

Wow, figured it was the oposite. Thanks for that tip.

One question, what percentage do dealers usually pay for a car from the factory? With the Eos, it was originally price around 37, but when we walked in they immediately offered it to us for 31.5. They said that was with them loosing 3k from what they paid for it. I just find it hard to believe that they would of only made a coupe thousand if they sold it for the original 37 sticker.

As for profit margins, it probably varies, but I'll guess the MSRP is probably 15% higher than what the dealer pays for the base vehicle, and options are probably at least a 20% mark up.

The dealers will often get re-imbursed additional undisclosed monies from the manufacturer (dealer hold back). So say the car stickers for $37,000 and the 'dealer cost' is $31,450 (85% of $37,000). But VW may kick back another $2,000 to the dealer after the car is sold.

Besides financing and raping you on any trade in, most dealerships will make a high profit margin on service and accessories, extended warranties, etc...

Bottom line is they may accept little to no profit on the vehicle sale if they think you will throw money at them for service, accessories, etc...

It is true. Don't tell them it is a cash deal until the end of the negotiations. They will make some money if you buy the extended warranty. I agree with the post above, you should buy the warranty. Because usually a mechanic will rape you when it comes to a VW. Not all mechanics have much experience with them. Some will run from a VW simply because they haven't worked on them before.

IIRC from when I worked at VW, the difference between the sticker and invoice was something like $3k. While a dealership may lose on the front end of the deal (sales) they'll make it all up and then some on the back end (finance). Definitely get the extended warranty if she's thinking about keeping the car longer than the factory warranty. Especially an Eos. Have you seen how complex that top mechanism is??? 1 little microswitch can cost you plenty!

As far as which is better, I can't honestly say. I left before the Tiguan came out. The Eos was nice, but the wind noise was too much for me with the sunroof open. The 2.0 did seem a little slow for me, but that's just a preference especially after driving the 3.6 and cleaning up the mess. LOL

Have you considered buying a used car? For the money you're going to spend on a VW, you could get into a late BMW M3 convertible. There are many out there- just one example.
