obviously me taking a 10.5% loan is not smart but its all I could do at the time, and I work my *** off in school and at work so I can take care of my self, you have gas every week, student loans, grocery's, dog supplies/vet stuff, car insurance, monthly rent, cable bill, electric bill and my truck payment. I am not asking for sympathy here I know what I was getting my self into when I decide on every purchase, and I have a great job for a 20 year old but Im good at what I do and I have been doing it since I was 15 so I take great pride in my self and what I have accomplished on my own and show it off my hard work through my truck. So you know what.. if I feel like poking fun at some kid who is coming on here and sharing his trials and tribulations about how he lost dads $50,000 credit card and blaming it on minorities, it is well deserved and in no way am I in the wrong.

How did you manage to prove to the mods you've really gotten your checking account under control?

All that bad check stuff was Steve.
Man, that guy could carry a grudge.

I couldn't buy or sell anything in the Classifieds with that moniker, made people uneasy I guess.

So that if you borrow $10,000, when you graduate the balance will still be $10,000 rather than $10,000 plus interest to start.

Some parents opt to do that.
Technically that only applies to the "non-need based" unsubsidized student loans. These types of loans are offered to students for expenses over and above the actual cost of attending school. Like credit cards, this is often associated with living beyond your means.

Contrast this with a subsidized loan which is awarded on the basis of financial need. If you're eligible for a subsidized loan, the government (aka tax payers) will pay (subsidize) the interest on your loan while you're in school and for the first six months after you leave school (graduate or quit).

If you take out $10K in subsidized loans the balance will be $10K when you graduate and enter repayment.

^ True. Your families "expected contribution" is taken into account when determining if you are eligible for those types of loans. I always had to get unsubsidized loans because my parents were making enough money that according to the Gov't, they had enough money to assist me though college.

yes. My X claims them as dependants, and gets the tax credits, while I pay their way through school. Great system we have for school.
