3000 mile oil changes no longer advised

just read release of ford's 3.7 305 hp v-6 in 2011 mustang- 10,000 mile oil changes, sure the rest of their lineup will follow suit,i'm sure there will be some that still follow the 3000 mile recomendation based on 50's sludge causing, parafin baswed oils...

The European standard has been 10k for a while now, but Euro oil specs are different than ours.

I took my truck to the dealer for the first oil change at 3000 miles... they pointed out in the Ford manual that the first was at 7500 miles, but in the midwest where I live they suggest 5000 miles.

IMO, every 5k works well, and it is easy to remember for those that change our own oil.

Every 3k is probably unnecessary, and every 10k just seems to long to me.

My opinion are not based on scientific proof, but changing every 5k has served me well for many years, so I'll be sticking with it.

I helped change my brothers oil in his Toyota 4Runner over Thanksgiving break. He had not changed it in about 8,000 miles. That stuff was blacker than sin and almost like syrup even after getting the engine nice and warm.

I think I will stick to 5,000 miles on my truck for now on. Mobil 1 Full Synthetic

and if you want to spend a LOT of time reading.....

I change the oil the '01 F150 at 10k intervals.(It has 106k miles on it.)
I also have a '96 4.6 Tbird with 165k and change that around 15k. (I use a synthetic blend in it.)

When you replace your filters DO NOT use a Fram!!
Buy a Wix or other QUALITY filter.

I've got one that I'm not supposed to change the oil on untill the light comes on. But I'm running at about 5k right now, and getting nervous. I think I'm going to do it next week. It's driving me nuts

Ford currently recommends 7500/6 months under normal service, 5000/6 months/200 engine hours under "special", "severe" or "dusty" service. This is based on using any oil that meets specs, not just the Motorcraft semi-syn.

That's because it's a Toyota.

Well, the 3000 mile rule has always been over talked. You figure any where from 4000-7500 is good.

I do about 4k mile changes based on UOA's on the amount of additive left in the oil.
