3000 mile oil changes no longer advised
I'm almost afraid to tell you what my intervals are. I change it every 2,000 miles. Does it NEED to be changed at 2,000? No, it still looks really good. Does it make me feel good? Yes.

I love it , I can go outside right now and pull the dipstick on my 200k truck, and the oil will just be showing a little darkness. It has about 2k on the last oil change. The only problem ever with the engine. Alternater, waterpump, idler pullys, and that dang EGR. I sometimes wonder though , it was driven so long with insuficient flow, maybe that helped keep things so clean
So frequent oil changes means long engine life? Go figure! Car companies are claiming longer intervals due to emissions and oil consumption. Plus, shorter engine life can mean more money for car companies!
Sort of go by the color and level of oil on dipstick. If I cannot read the lines through the oil on the stick in daylight, or if it is below the add line, it gets changed. I do try to change the filter around 5k or so and top off, then change oil and filter at 10k if the previous conditions are not met. I use full synthetic.
I hate diesels for passenger cars and trucks. Diesels are for tractors , farm tractor, and locomotives.
I don't really care for diesles either. I mean they're kinda cool but I wouldn't wanna own one.

Oh no.......... lol
