Dingo is still being quiet, how bout selling the Expy and moving out of Chicago for clean air and water?

And Lenticular, I watch Top Gear all the time, and if you think that is stereotypical redneck, you haven't got a clue. The real rednecks wouldnt even let them survive. Evidence: Census worker

I've been through BACKWOODS Tennessee. I'm straight. I'm white. I carried a gun. I still didn't feel safe.
Hey just to make it clear i didnt say ne thing bout ppl with trucks being conservative or liberal but one of the two is more hipocritical...i think one was complaining about emmissions but still drives a gas guzzler?

Be glad you have a mortgage. You feel like you're getting something for your money. If you didn't have the mortgage, he would simply take your money

RileyDog, since you directed this specifically at me, I'm letting it ride. I vote for people who seem to be able to think and, who seem to have the best interests of the Nation at heart. These are the people who, in my mind, represent this Nation I spent 20 years of my life in the service of. And, my friend, what have YOU done in the service of YOUR country? Just asking, of course - you don't have to answer at all.

And, my friend, just so you'll know - I'm an Air Force pilot, no coke, no marijuana, no acid, 12 hours between the bottle and the throttle and, I can spot a fake "patriot" miles away.

But, I meant my "reformed conservative" comment in a light-hearted way. I have many staunchly conservative friends - we are able to trade good-natured jabs without resorting to character-smearing comments.

Offroadn - if your comment was directed at me - it was completely fair. Yes - I drive an F150 that is technically a "gas guzzler". I'd rather not have to do this, of course, but we like to pull a 3600# trailer into undeveloped camping areas all over the US and we found our previous (non-gas guzzling) vehicle simply didn't have the power to take us where we wanted to go. When you're towing over 11,000 ft + passes in Colorado, you need a bit more power than the "eco-vehicles" are giving you.

So you and everyone else will know, I don't drive the F150 except on towing trips or trips where I'm going to be on back roads. It's a "garage queen". I have a "non-clunker" rated car I drive at all other times.

I don't complain about emissions, but I do see the total effect as being a problem for our planet. I'd love to see technology that would reduce those emissions and still give us the power to do the things that make life interesting.

Is this hypocritical? I don't think so. I'm being totally up front with all of you. A hypocrite does not do that.

And Offroadn - again, I think your observation is completely fair. I'm simply presenting my side of it.

I second what JackandJanet says. I am not asking anyone to get a Prius or anything. I would be terrified on the Chicago expressways in something that flimsy.

Same way as Cash for Clunkers was a joke...destroying good vehicles is a good use of resources?

That being said, if we can take steps to save the environment, have cleaner air and better water...it is the right thing to do. Example...eliminating cats has little benefit (some say it hurts power) but many do it.

I hear many complain they work hard for their money so why should they have to help others? Lets look at 3rd world nations...not everyone there is poor. There is a small group that is wealthy but they don't share with the poor and sick. The result in a land like America would be that you can produce all you want but no one will be able to buy the goods being offered. We are better off because we can help the poor pull themselves up.

Can you cure poverty? Probably not because there are hose too lazy or stupid to take advantage of the help and make the best of it. Rather they put another hand out. Never said government was perfect but they do have the best to reach out to all.

As far as President Obama...if he is proven ineligible then he comitted fraud and will haveto face the consequences. I don't agree with all of his ideas but the president deserves respect nonetheless. Blatantly racist acts of protesters of his policies destroy their credibility.

Both parties run up big deficits. When Clinton left office there was a surplus and the debt was about 6 trillion. In 8 years it was up around 10 trillion...much in tax breaksfor the wealthiest 5% and war. Now it is boiling over...around 12 trillion and climbing.

Wow...I actually agree with much of what you said but than you start with this racist crap. This race crap is so overplayed that it has lost it's meaning and impact.

Those who inject race into the conversation only does it to stiffen the conversation. Look in the mirror...maybe you might not like what you see.

Cash for clunkers was a total joke. I agree. Not to mention the fact that the United States does not have the money to hand out cash for anything.. especially clunkers. However, there are many that have taken the global warming issue to an extreme. All those videos of little polar bears and penguins in the arctic used to promote the front on global warming are out-landish and flat out stupid IMO. It is one thing to be in it for "global awareness", but to use global warming as a prop for pulling in the big bucks... its just not going to fly.

You must understand that not everyone is "poor" in a sense of working their butts off and just flat out not having any money come the end of the month. There are people that claim injuries and lots of other things just to get free money.. YOUR and MY hard-earned paychecks are used to pay people to sit on the couch and watch TV all day. Those people are the ones that drive me and many others "up the wall" if you will.

You are absolutely correct in saying that both parties have built up the national debt. However, Obama has spent more than ANY other president of the United States or all of them combined, and look at how long he has been in office.

And I somewhat second what screwyou is saying. Using the fact that Obama is black or whatever you would want to call him does not give reason for someone to be labeled as a racist for disagreeing with him. There are plenty of people who are flat out racist, and I know that. But it would seem as though any time some one that is not of his "race" stood up to say something that disagrees is just a racist. I am tired of seeing the word racist used as a prop to cover up the fact that not everyone agrees with the man. Hell, I do not agree with hardly anything that the man says, but I would treat you the same no matter what color, race, or ethnicity that you claim to be. There is a very bold line between what is racist and what people assume of others to be racism. Most people like to cross over that line. How many people that are not white got up and made a mockery of Bush. Are they racist? I dont know, but I did see everyone trying to say they were either.

Now you're reading too much into what I said. How do you get that I don't like Ford vehicles? I think the F150 is a dynamite truck and would really like to have an f250 with a diesel engine. Some day, maybe. And, I've probably been driving Ford vehicles since before you were born, unless you were born before 1963? My parents owned Ford products before that and, I learned to drive a manual shift Ford when I got my first license. Please don't suggest I don't like Fords.

I simply said I wished there was a way to get the power I needed in a more economical way. And, I don't have to use the "monster" to drive to the hardware store, do I?

You are, of course, entitled to your opinions about global warming, just as I am. One of us is going to be proven right, probably in the not too distant future. I'm concerned about that future, even though I'm probably not going to live to see it. My Children and Grandchildren and probably YOU, will. I hope, for your sakes, it's at least the beautiful planet we see today.
