Use search option !! Use search option!!
OP - One of the things that makes this site so much better than other forums is that there are not as many ill-tempered people on here busting peoples' stones every time they ask a question. I see that you are new here, so maybe you didn't pick up on that yet. Please don't stink up this site by crapping on people. If someone asks a question that you don't want to answer, then just don't post any reply.
As we all know, this point HAS been brought up quite a few times, and, it will doubtless come up again. Until someone figures out a way to "standardize" the search functions in various applications and comes up with a more "intelligent" way to perhaps match synonyms, or word misspellings, in search strings, people are going to get frustrated using search.
In addition, a new guy isn't going to have any idea of the wealth of information available in this forum, especially if he's come from some of the less civilized ones.

Topic: "should i use blocks or AAL"
Topic: "power steering pump went out, what to do?"
Topic: "should i use AAL or blocks to lift the rear"
Topic: "what's better...leafs of blocks?"
Topic: "check out these rims and tires"
Topic: "front end higher than rear, what to do??"
*All on the same page after hitting 'new posts'
Get the point.....and you all assume i'm reading them...I'm not, but just scrolling through the topic titles and this is what you see most of the time..not to mention a few pages later

Which would members be more apt to take note of in a constructive way, a message delivered on a harpoon or a platter ?
The title alone sends a bad message to new members when they see it.
Additionally, when did the OP become the voice of the members that post a lot on the site. If the group he was trying to "help" had an issue, they could have posted a platter message about keyword usage with searches.
Lord forbid a new member sees this thread, and thinks twice about joining due to the tone of the thread, they might think it is one of the other Ford sites.

1. When a resolution is found, posting the results with as much detail as they can.
2. Adding keywords to any post of the thread will be useful to a search.
2.1. For the more interesting / one off threads in the electrical forum, I will add in a post a list of keywords, so the search algorithm can find that thread.
They can be in any order, separated by spaces, and list as many terms as they want.
One quick example I can find ( post #11 ) :
https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...ht-always.html
Had the OP started the thread with a more platter positioned message :
Title : In trying to help with searches
Body of post #1 :
In order to aid in search results producing more accurate hits on varying phrases, if members could add to the thread a post, a list of keywords, and if you can think of alternate names for the description, including them also.....yada yada yada....
Nope, we got the harpoon method.
I just want it clear that jd2518 does not speak for the bulk of the membership here, and this is his complaint alone, feel free to add him to your ignore list.
Your thread list, you have forgotten one very important piece of information, what forum are they in ? The new posts list is from all forums.
You have posted Trailer brake questions not in the Towing and hauling forum, or the secondary place to look, the electrical forum, but in the 2004-2008 forum.
See it can happen that there is forum overlap, and a question from different members can be in more than 1 forum.
Maybe stop and think, the title does not tell the complete story. Yourself you started a thread in 2009 about rising the front of your truck a bit. Do you think this could have been answered before JUL-09 about a 04-08 my truck ?
Oh sorry forgot, you included the "out" of " not finding an exact answer".
That is it, if you don't want to search, the out on not having jd2518 rip on you, is to include the words : 'I did not find an exact answer'
Let me clarify for those new members, jd2518 does NOT speak for the whole membership here, even though he thought it was his job to save members "work".
SScully... well put brother... I fully agree. We need to have people ask questions. This site is so active because of it. Sometimes questions that were answered decently can be answered even better over time as new info is brought to the table or even if another member with a different rangeof knowledge jumps in to help. Keep asking questions guys... it helps everyone learn. I disagree with the quote about the search button and remembering everything for life... reading and helping people is when you remeber things best; atleast that is the case with me.

OK, I didn't read this entire thread but I have an idea on how to fix the search option.
Link it to Google. I'm half kidding cause I'm sure f150online.com has a million reasons that they don't want to do that but, I usually just Google whatever I'm looking for and probably around 98% of the time I get a link to this site that will answer my questions.
I can use the search button and I end up with a bunch of off topic threads.
