I just think it is funny when noobs try to tell other noobs how they should do things like search etc. when they are guilty of the same thing. This forum is for sharing and helping out your fellow truck owner. If you are sick of a particular question just move on to the next one.

Hello everyone!

I currently own a 2000 Expedition with the 5.4L. The oil cap has 5W-30 on it. Does that mean if I use 5W-20 my motor will self-emplode?

I use Mobil-1 which means my motor should last 10,000,000,000 miles. ( unless I use 5W-20 of course )

So what brand and grade of oil do you all use in your 5.4's?

Lastly, what is the verdict on the 4.6's, are they better than the 5.4's?

(Disclaimer: The above statements may contain large doses of sarcasm.)

jd2518,

1. Don't know what you searched for, but your threads from 2009 about a 04-08 MY truck were not ground breaking questions. I was just using you as the example of why there can be multiple questions for a topic. Why not you did it yourself. You have only been here ~13 months, so you must have missed it the first xx times it came up. Think maybe someone else had this happen to them ?

2. I don't care how you feel about insulting members, it is not going to happen here, and I want it clear that you insulting members is just you. This is not that type of forum.

3. New members or members that have not registered read things like this. I want it clear your attitude towards posting repeat questions is not the norm, just you alone. and I strongly suggest you not slam members in threads, that is what the infraction system is for. As for listing the thread titles, you kind of did call those members out at that point.

4. I am sure more than just yourself can see the question could be in more than 1 forum. I was pointing out those specific topic can be in more than 1 forum, but your 'making an example of them' could be in error. You, yourself have posted items in not the primary forum. can happen, cut others slack.

5. Again my replies ( and it seems quite a few others ) are to let everyone know ( registered and yet to register members ) know this is the exception to the membership, not the norm like the other sites.

6. Read post #36, answer is right there.
I thought I was doing some of the main guys here a favor
I should add the reason that you are sick of seeing the same question. Keep it to yourself then !

7. Re-read the harpoon / platter analogy. Your method ( not the platter method ) can turn off people from registering. While this does not seem to bother you, it is not what the site wants.

8. Mods cannot use the ignore list, we have to watch everyone. I was pointing that out for new members or people thinking of registering, so they don't have to get this type of self righteous elitist attitude.

Out of respect for sscully and other moderators, I never intended for my post to be taken as 'a mutual feeling of all' by any noob that read it...me saying that it could have been considered a favor would only have been realized (if realized @ all) had someone heeded the message and used the search option that is available....Nor did i ever intend to insult members. Had i wanted to do that, I would have thrown names in 'as examples' as did sscully use me as an example. The thread titles i listed were not quotes, just an example off the top of my head....and in no way, shape or form am i self-righteous elitist...i'm humbled by the amount of knowledge some of you share here and have used it to my advantage numerous times

I have an old BMW.
On the BMW forum I frequent, I've seen noobs torn to shreds.
I've been a member over there for several years and never posted.
The site is as big as this one.

Luckily, it has always met my needs as I'm a former database administrator so I know how to build a quasi Select Statement thru the confines of the search engine.

Sometimes a noob will start a thread on a much covered topic here.
Depending on the presentation of the request, I either ignore it or do the search for them, showing the search verbage, forums searched, possibly member names if applicable.
I whet their appetite telling them how many 'hits' I got and links to a few examples.

This not only helps that member but, others who may later go to that thread needing like/kind.
I have stumbled across this process a few times at bimmerforums and appreciated it.
