Windows Vista
No doubt. It just blows me away hearing folks gripe about how much Microsoft and Vista sucks. About the only way I've seen Vista machines genuinely crash and burn is due to self inflicted damage - people clicking and downloading things they shouldn't, installing elevenity billion toolbars in IE, playing around with file sharing services and catching the digital clap, whatever.

That is when i started getting runtime errors too. When i downloaded a newer version of Internet Explorer.
I have no games just some pics and music no other downloads, and a good virus software. The problems I have is when my pc does its automatic updates from microsoft then they dont work like they used to. Unless im just missing some of the previous updates cuz I recently moved into town where we now have high speed internet. Outside town in the country dial-up would take too long to do the updates.
Vista did suck at release, but it just had some major growing pains. Now, several years later, those kinks have been worked out and Windows 7 is an even bigger improvement upon an already solid base.
I do. Running vista 32 bit with a 2 ghz processor and 3 gb of memory on a laptop and using IE 8. Works flawlessly, but I also go thru msconfig and shut down all the unessassry B/S that doesn't need to be running in the background. Now this little $600 laptop flys and runs smooth as glass.
So what is the solution if it is the user. I am not a gamer. I just use the internet for getting on the web. I do have some downloaded music. I have McAfee on it so as far as i know i dont have any viruses or spyware or anything.
Other than regular performance maintenance and routine scans by Norton everything is running well here.
Well I guess your right on that it may be the user b/c I only use my pc for internet, music and pics so as far as getting into the tech part of it I'm lost. Maybe I need to get with the times and get some edumacation on how to use my pc lol. I guess I'm not as high tech of a redneck I thought I was. Key word is redneck my friend lol
Firefox + Adblock + NoScript goes a long way with regards to keeping the general PC user out of trouble.
Other than that, just use your head. Don't open questionable E-mails or files. If you've got toolbars installed for IE, get rid of 'em. The elevenity billion bloatware games and such that come with most mass produced boxed PCs, uninstall them. You folks using P2P file sharing gigs like Limewire or whatever, tread carefully, or better yet, uninstall and get your tunes elsewhere - yeah, you'll have to pay for them, but you'll run into way fewer headaches in the long run.
For several years, I screwed up a lot of stuff on my own PCs and didn't wanna pay anyone (couldn't afford to, really) to fix it, so I had to get in there and figure it out myself. I don't claim to be technically savvy, but now that I learned through a little trial and error, everything I own is bug free and totally reliable.
