Very nice knife there. I didn't have any of the 'salts' until I bought both Ladybug Salts- serrated and plain. I've got a fetish for the little ladybugs. I have 8 of them now. I like to give them as gifts too. They go nearly unnoticed in the pocket, but have great ability beyond their size. To me, much better than carrying a Swiss army type.

I got my knife, it's the Bucklite Max. I really like this style of knife. I carried a 110 Folding hunter during most of my teens and early 20's. Then I discover the buck lite series, where I picked up a smaller one, (2 3/4" blade) I carried it for many years. I then had a hankering for a Gerber Gator, which I hated and traded a guy for a full sized Bucklite back in 1995. This was identical in size and blade shape to the 110.

After some years, it just seemed kind of bulky to carry, either in your pocket or on your belt. So I quite carrying.

Now that I have the Bucklite max I'm liking the lite weight, and slimness of the design. After getting a decent edge on it, it's wicked sharp (Using a leather strop with buffing compound on it).

Several things off the bat in the last few weeks of having it.

Boy is it stiff. The thumb stud had my thumb raw. It has since loosened up quite a bit and doesn't bother my thumb anymore.

The Machining on the blade is also rough. I've been polishing it with some Simichrome and that has seemed to help. But I like my blades very smooth. I guess I'll have to put it on the buffer to get it the way I like it.

I like the new designed blade. It has less "clip" than the 110 version, and still plenty of point. I hate spade points. I like pointy knives for good finger nail cleaning (and other tasks)

What would I change about it?

I would make the clip removable and where you could switch sides. I'm a lefty and it would be nice to have the knife sit correctly in my left pocket.

I would make the action smoother out of the box. It's rough and stiff as all get out. Not only me, but several friends commented on it when I showed them. This could cause folks to not want to buy it if they get to try it out before purchase.

I would do something to make the machining on the blade smoother. I feel that rough machining cause drag when cutting things like boxes and such.

For the price ($25 msrp) this is a great general purpose knife and a welcome update to the Buck Lite design.

Okay,

took some comparison photos. There is 25 years of Buck Knife History here. The 110 Folding hunter was given to me Christmas 1985 or so. I think I was 14 at the time.

Here is the Bucklite Max with a small stick I wittled one day. The Bucklite was comfortable in the hand and easy to use. It was very sharp, but needed a little touch up when I was done. This twig was aged Bradford Pear and was really hard.

Here is a photo for comparison of the 110 sized Bucklite. This is the one I traded for the Gerber Gator. Would have been around 1995 when I was stationed in Germany.

Here is the Bucklite Max besides it's Granddaddy the 110 Folding Hunter. That was a great knife in it's day, but boy is it heavy. Also the locking mechanism isn't as reliable as the new Bucklite Max. You can see the difference in blade design compared to the 110. I really like the new Bucklite Max design. Less of a "clip" at the end of the blade makes it easier for me to handle. That 110 has seen a lot of use, but it's still hair shaving sharp. I haven't carried it in 20 years.

Nice photo of all 4 Buck folding knives that I own. They are all based on the 110 folding hunter.

Another shot: I really liked the size of the smaller Bucklite. I carried that one during desert storm. That would have been 1990.

Last Shot: Bucklite Max with packaging and whittled twig.

I have many more knives from other makers both fixed blade, and folding. Some of my knives cost several hundred dollars. For the money it's really hard to beat a Buck!

I'm still diggin my Bucklite Max. This is the first folding knife I have carried in several years, most of my knives are fixed blade. I like the convenience of being able to clip it to you pocket.

It's really starting to loosen up now, I can flip it open no problems now.

I really like the assisted opening knifes. I have owned 2 of one of the buck assisted opening models. It is the all metal knife that is basically just the frame. The first one I had no longer opens, lol. So I bought another one. That one I broke while trying to pry something. I had a Kershaw knife that I had for years that I lost in Mississippi during Huricane Katrina recovery mission trip. I loved that knife and it never seemed to dull. Yesterday I purchased a new knife. A Kershaw Tanto Blur. I am very hard on knifes and usually end up losing/breaking them. This one has a very rough surface that will make it MUCH easier to grab in mud/water/oil. My last knife was a pain when I was trying to cut a broken tow strap off a stuck truck. I could not hang on to the knife because of its metal surface.

My dad has a knife that looks VERY similar to that 110 folding hunter. He has had it for about 20 years and he still keeps it in his hunting bag. That knife has done everything from cut seatbelts in a car accidents, clean game, and cut summer sausuage, lol. Its an amazing knife and still works flawlessly.
