4 years active duty, MOS 13M. 3 years in Babenhausen Germany. 11 years in reserves and national gaurd, MOS 96R. Wish I could have stayed in longer, was on the list for E-8. Long story about babies (due dates) and overseas (Bosnia) deployments. Loved it all the time, and miss it sometimes (payday).

U.S. Navy Machinist's Mate Second Class 1988-1994.
U.S.S. Mauna Kea (AE-22)-a good boat

U.S.S. Flint (AE-32)- a piece of crap with a sorry *** command that personified everything WRONG with the U.S. Armed Forces, including females who stayed in a constant state of pregnancy to gain early discharge and shore duty. Final straw came in October of 1993, when we had a Machinist's Mate in RASE Division (I was a hole snipe) get crushed to death in an elevator. A scant month later, this idiot command attempted an at-sea rescue of a foundering sail boat off of the coast of Monterey, California when they were ill-equipped to do so. Wound up crushing the sail boat and dumping its occupants in the drink as well as nearly drowning our SAR swimmer. U.S.S. Cimarron (AO-177) had to take charge and un-******* things (they had ZODIAC boats, better ship handlers, etc.). The command, and I use that term very loosely, panicked and confiscated everyone's film, the bell log (I was MMOW during this BS), and the bridge log. The skipper was canned very shortly afterwards. I was DAMNED GLAD to get out.
