Post Rear-ended by VW Jetta!!!

Mindin' my own business when I was rear-ended by a VW Jetta...have a look. Unfortunately, I didn't get pix of the VW but it's pretty much history. Also notice the VW imprint on my bumper.

I was hit like that by a 99 or 2000 Accord. Except he only dented the right rear of my bumper instead of the whole thing. Still cost a little over a grand to fix. Now his car on the other hand I don't wanna know the cost. The worst part was I that I didn't have my truck for a few days, but when I got it back of course everyone at the autobody place had to talk to me about it.

A 6x6 chunk of that bumper would make a great memento for your desk!

A fellow thought my wife had continued her turn -- only to find that she had stopped -- ouch -- destroyed the little car -- very little apparent damage to our truck -- but it did require a bumper, support, and trailer wiring -- to the tune of $650.

Sounds like a 3-beer night -- it gets better.

I guess those Blazer reflectors between the tailgate and the bumper didn't do their job, huh?

Those pictures pain me, as your truck is very similar to mine and the woman has a '99 Jetta.

Glad you weren't hurt adn best of luck getting you truck back in service.

Just out of curiousity, did the airbags deploy on either vehicle?

Glad to hear your okay and that the truck will survive.

You sure you got rear-ended? It looks more like you got branded....

All4chem:
No airbag deployment in either vehicle...the VW driver wondered why his didn't and it was apparently because his bumper rode underneath mine...his grill and hood took most of the impact.

Now I'm wondering about fiberglass repair...do regular body shops do this work? Do they just Bondo the cracks and sand it smooth? Or does it need to go to a shop that specializes in fiberglass repair? Maybe the old Supercab will be sharing a stall with a Corvette or two.

I've had fiberglass repaired a coupla times. A cap, the front piece on a ranger, and a hard tonneau cover. All were done at different shops but each shop was just an auto body shop, nothing special.
The tonneau was the most involved repair, from hail damage and they had to "burn" the whole cover, repair the dings and repaint it. They all turned out OK.

I think they use a netting and glaze over it.
Good luck!
Dave

marv1 - when you get it fixed you should see if you can keep the VW print on the truck. it would be worth it.
