Rear-ended by VW Jetta!!!
OUCH! I've almost had the same thing happen to me...if I had not pulled forward at the last minute...my 98 would have been smacked pretty good. Yes, the VW imprint is classic!

Marv, funny you should quote Poe and hitches in the same topic. NVRMORE is my license plate and I ALWAYS keep the ball hitch for the boat mounted on there. That's another 9 in inches of protection. Plus, the ball hitch acts like scissors cutting away the hood of the unsuspecting rear-ender.

OK gang, here's the damages....$5000.29!!! The worst part is that the body shop estimates 12 days to fix (July 20 is when it's supposed to be ready). The bed went forward and impacted the cab and rear window moulding; dents on cab to be filled, moulding to be replaced. Some frame damage, too. Gotta take off the whole bed to fix.
New fiberglass side panels (900.70),chrome bumper (332.76), windowmoulding (109.20),
other parts 799.73. Total for parts is 2142.39.
Rest is labor

------------------
'99 F150 SC, 4x2, Oxford white, flareside, 5.4, 3.55 rearend,
bodyside mouldings, Snuglid hard tonneau, K&N dropin, airbox and frsh air mods.
Duraliner drop-in (gave up on the Penda Nascar). Gibson Supertruck. Ford 2-piece bra. Catch-All floor mats. Image tail light covers. B-Quiet sound dampener in rear of cab.
No door cracks yet at 10K!!!

All4Chem...nice side-by-side shot (I love this site). The 5k is just for my baby; I think the '99 Jetta is close to being totalled. I'm taking the truck in today and will try to get some pix of it when the bed is off (will post here if I do). I'm getting %30 a day for a rental and I refuse to drive a Neon!!! Hopefully, there will be a truck or something available.
Nice Imprint on the bumper! Did you have a sign on your tailgate saying "Drivers Wanted"? Make sure the body shop uses only OEM replacement parts, when I was hit State Farm tried the generic parts on my F150 and they didn't fit very good and I bithched and they ended up going OEM anyway. Good Luck.
Rick99:
The appraiser told me that 12k miles is the benchmark insurance companies use to determine whether OEM or generic replacement parts are installed (he authorized OEM Ford parts for my truck
). Appraisers use something called the Motor Crash Estimating Guide to do their figuring. They also use something called Guide DR2MA97 which I think determines what parts are required. Also, I should have some pix of the truck with the bed off next week.

I got rear ended in my full size lifted Bronco a couple years back while sitting at a light by a Honda Accord doing about 45. LOL, he scratched my bumper sticker "smile as you go under" whiched pissed me off, but that was about it.
His car was trashed! My trailer hitch (which was a 6" drop one in a Class III receiver)went through the radiator hit the motor, pushed it back into the fire wall and cracked the block. LOL, I did have to lock the front hubs and throw it in 4x4 to get my truck "OUT" of his car!
