Wink What sold you on the Ford F-150?

I wanted to know what sold my fellow F-150 members on this GREAT truck! I have my reasons, but what are yours? To start it off.... I've done my homework and found it to be the best selling truck for the past 21 years. What's yours?

Cool

I bought my truck in early '97, so, the body was fresh. I also liked the idea that they were using the 4.6L motor that had proved its worth in taxis & police cars for a few years.
When I drove it, I LOVED the ride. So, I became an owner.

I loved the way it looked. It had dust on it when I saw it in the dealers lot and it still looked great.

It was a Ford. Better product than Dodge or Shovie. Didn't even consider rice burners.

In the summer of 98, I decided to purchase a full-size pickup. So I spent well over a month reading every review, looking at and test driving the big three (Dodge, Ford, Shuvy). The Ford was listed as the most reliable of the bunch...by a large margin.
I went with the F-150 because it is simply the best looking truck on the road, to me. The ride is more like a car and it has *incredible* power on the low end. Overhead cam engines are much more reliable than the older pushrod design (fewer moving parts).

I like the F-150, despite a few bugs still in it. I am not happy about the potential door crack problem..but as long as I am never stranded because the engine or tranny has failed..I'll be happy.

Cool

the Summer of 1998 was beginning to look like a serious move was too be made. My wife's old Ciera was showing its age.

Since I had considered a pickup for some years I was more concerned about the ride and comfort than anything else and had looked at the new '97 Ford style from the beginning along with its advertised new "ride."

Since this F150 is my "car" and not an offroader or work truck a serious change had to be carefully considered from driving GM cars all my life.

As a life long GM car owner I was somewhat prejudiced until I drove a new 1997 Ford. Wasn't ready yet however but the groundwork and research had begun. I think most will agree that the new F150 style from 1997 took some getting used to. It WAS different.

I had no complaints about the Chevy either, it was close but the F150 prevailed in the end.

To make a long story short, I ordered my 1999 F150 as I wanted it, took delivery and never looked back!

Price.
You get more for your $$$ with F150.
Chevy and Dodge wanted $2,000 more for similiarly equipt trucks.
Toyota didn't even have regular cabs on the lot.
No V8 avalible in a Toyota regular cab anyway.

Cool

When I decided to buy a FULL size truck, I drove all three available models. The dodge was thrown out and it was a real tough choice between the Ford and GMC (never considered a Chevy). When it came down to it the Ford was going into it's fourth year of production (the GM's were 1st year models) and just plain looks better not to mention cost less than the GMC.

I always wanted to own a full size 4x4 truck, ever since I was 8 years old. My dream truck is a rebuilt 1956 Ford on a new 4x4 chassis, but my '97 Flairside is the closest I can get to it

Besides my dad always had 20 year old Ford trucks and never had problems with them. To me its the brand name.

Well the number 1 reason I bought a F150 is that its a Ford. 2nd I wanted somethig different for awhile after 3 Mustangs in a row. Plus I decided to join the truck trend and be like everyone else and buy a truck.
