Wasp sting?

So while I was at the junkyard yesterday I managed to get stung by a wasp. Stinger fell out, but a day later it still hurts. I'm 6'2" @ 150 lbs, so my right arm looks like a sausage compared to my left one. I'm not allergic, but this redness and swelling is interfering with my normal daily routine.

Its itchy as heck! Anyone have any home remedies? I already put some cortisone on it, but it didnt help.

we always put tobacco on stings when we first get em (like skoal).... and something about it calms the initial swelling big time, its still itchy afterwords but its still not twice the size.......

Good luck man. I got stung on the second knuckle of my middle finger this summer. Could hardly bend my middle and ring fingers for 3 or 4 days, had a nice nice club hand for at least a week. And like you said, itchy as heck.

Benadryl and time...and do not say that you are not allergic---I found out the hard way---one can develop an allergy at anytime in one's life...

Well I meant to say I didn't have an allergic reaction. I already talked to an EMT and if I were allergic, I'd be on my way to the hospital so-to-speak.

How long does it take to go back to normal?

Edit: Jeepin, long time no see. Check your PM's bud.

If the swelling doesn't start to subside in a day or two I would head to the Doc.

Another thing I highly recommend for the itching is Campophenique... it stinks... but it works like magic.

It is designed for mosquito bites, bee stings, and small burns.

Raptor, pay REAL close attention. My dad died when I was a kid from a wasp sting. He wasn't allergic either...or so he thought. He had been stung the weekend before and it didn't even swell. The next time killed him. His throat swelled closed and he couldn't breath. Now if you want to choke to death, just keep thinking you aren't allergic. We had Texas University come out to the house and they did a study on wasp stings that are lethal. The report we got from them said that every time you are stung by any insect, the "venom" does not leave your body-ever. When conditions are right, all the "venom" can be reactivated. I'm no doctor and I wasn't old enough at 16 to maybe ask the right questions but I can tell you it killed him one day but a week earlier it didn't bother him. You are allergic to wasps stings. I strongly suggest that you carry Benadryl with you at all times. I keep it in the truck. You have 3 minutes from sting to the Benadryl having no effect. If you or anybody else reading this thread waits thinking they aren't allergic, think again before it's too late. My dad was 41 years old and in perfect health. It's better to swallow a little pill and not need it than die from stupidity. Do your family a favor, keep Benadryl close on outings.
