as far as i know there is no in-the-pan filter for the I4
there is just 2 plastic pieces and then there is just a paper cartridge filter on a black plastic cap that just unscrews

that is on all of the fusions up to 08 and i would guess that its the same on the 09s as much else didnt change

but yes they are very nice cars and we havent had to many problems with them at my dealership

My dad's friend has one, and it's ok. Not a problem yet and he's got like 30k on it... maybe more.

Can't speak for the Fusion, but Mazda had the Duratec 2.3L I4 in my Mazda 6 rental and its plenty fast for a 4-banger. Idle sounds a bit weird, but a good all-around engine.

I didn't like the Dodge in the tank gas filter.
So now Ford is making in the pan oil filters?

I haven't actually seen one, I'm just going by the Fusion forums, but according to Motorcraft.com, the oil filter part number is referenced in this article

http://www.fordfusionforum.com/lofiv....php?t764.html

And this is the K&N filter for the I4.

That reminds me of a story, I bought my mom a Bonsai tree a few years ago, the instructions said to completely submerge the root in water once a week. After a few months, she asked me if I wanted it. I asked her why since she had specifically asked for one. She said she liked it but was tired of digging it up and replanting it every week just to water it!

The Fusion/Milan/Zephyr/MKZ all have fuel filters built into the fuel pump. Replace the fuel pump at 100K miles to service the filter.

A good friend of mine sold his real nice loaded tahoe last year for a fusion - I thought he was nuts until I saw how nice his car is. Another friend drives the zephyr and my neighbor has a mkz. All of them are schweeeeeeeet! If I wanted to get back into a car I'd almost guarantee it'd be one of those 3

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
I say bad.

I think it's annoying and rather silly, but it is what it is.

It's Ford's way of cutting costs.

Sucks if you put fuel in that has a lot of sediment, like in my area.

I cut open my fuel filter at 10k, and it was loaded with sediment.
