On the commute always wear the belt. Around the block, no.
AT high speeds yes.

I never used to, but now that I have kids, I always do. How can I expect them to if I don't...

I always wear mine. I try to get my fiance to always wear hers, but she won't most of the time unless I make her. She just recently got a $75 ticket and still won't wear it. She says it is because she is big and it doesn't fit her.

Did anyone notice who the thread starter of this thread is? Hard to imagine Raoul starting a thread like this

This thread is from six years ago, before I started sniffing glue.

Always wear mine and everyone that rides with me does as well. If they (mostly my wife's grandmother) complain about it I just ask that they wear it as an example to my kids.

I ALWAYS wear mine...If I DON'T that damn thing makes noise every 15 sec. I live with 5000 others that don't and now I have an unfair advantage.

Mine use to ding too. Then I did the Hokie Pokie as described in my owners manual to disable that.

Ford Owners Manual
Deactivating/Activating the Belt Minder feature:
The Belt Minder feature can be deactivated/activated by performing the following procedure:

Before following the procedure, make sure that:
· The parking brake is set
· The gearshift is in the P (Park) (automatic transmission) or the neutral position (manual transmission).
· The ignition switch is in the off position
· All vehicle doors are closed
· The driver’s safety belt is unbuckled
· The parklamps/headlamps are in the OFF position (if vehicle is equipped with auto lamps, this will not affect the procedure.)

To reduce the risk of injury, do not deactivate/activate the Belt Minder feature while driving the vehicle.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT START THE ENGINE)
2. Wait until the safety belt warning lamp turns off. (Approximately 1-2 minutes)

Steps 3-5 must be completed with in 60 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated.

3. Buckle and unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled. This can be done before or during the Belt Minder warning activation.
4. Turn on the parklamps/headlamps, turn off the parklamps headlamps.
5. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled.

After Step 5 the safety belt warning light will be turned on for three seconds.

6. With in seven seconds of the safety belt warning light turning off, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.

This will enable Belt Minder if it is currently disabled, or disable Belt Minder if it is currently enabled.
Now do the Hokie Pokie and turn yourself around. That's what it's all about!

Seatbelts, always. All Passengers--including pregnant ones. Someone said pregnant people shouldn't wear seatbelts but that's not true. Study after study proves otherwise. Hit Google for more info.

I used to work in an auto insurance company claims dept. Here's why I wear mine. Maybe this will help coax a few non-users into reconsidering.

Only one type of injury haunts me, and it's related to not wearing a seatbelt. It's called a 'degloving'. It generally happens when a person not wearing a seatbelt tries to brace themselves for impact using the steering wheel or dashboard. Upon collision, your hand(s) go through the dashboard if you're trying to brace yourself (the effort to brace yourself is a complete waste of time, as instinctual as it may be). When you're thrown back in your seat your hand is pulled out of the dash board, but most of the skin and tissue is torn off by the plastic and metal surrounding the hole in the dash. The result is basically a skeletonized hand that more often than not requires amputation.

-Fatz

p.s. Generally speaking, automobile insurance companies haven't made an underwriting profit for an awfully long time, somewhere around 20 years. The money is made by reinvesting the premiums received into the stock market to turn a profit.
