I had heard that was coming, but I don't think GM will leave the pony car market all to Ford. I've heard they're working on releasing a new pony car in a couple of years.

The Malibu, Impala and T-Bird went away, too, but they are back albeit in a different guise. Even the Mercury pickup truck is back (Blackwood). GM has had a long ride on the venerable F-bodies and its time for a change. IMHO, of course.

I remember about 10-12 years ago when there was tons and tons of these cars on the road. Being the nostalgic soul that I am, I hate seeing any American car discontinued but if they come up with a better car then it may be worth it.
I suspect the rumor is true since they are currently GMs only rear drivers. the unique parts are probably costing them too much for the amount of cars they are producing. All other GM cars use many of the same parts. I hope these models do not reappear as FWD in a few years, boy would that **** off the motorheads!
They were some of the poorest quality cars ever built as well. I read a comment in CR once that said "the Camaro/Firebird has been a continuous disappointment since it debuted in 1967" regarding quality. Still, you gotta love the old T/A 6.6 or the 301 Turbo T/A or the 89 (I think) Anniversary T/A with the 3.8 Turbo Grand National engine. I always liked the Pontiac better.
