Obama promises, The need to bend a little.

It seem as though Obama is having to become a little more flexible on his stance of getting us out of the Mid-East.

This article seems to carry a litle more understanding of the problem, than the campain promises held.

Maybe the change in stance comes from the political name calling he has already received from the Muslim side of the track. I never dreamed they would be calling him names before he has imposed his first steps in his promised talks with the opposition.
I don't believe the Muslem extremist even know why they are fighting. They seem to do so because their religious leaders need an enemy, to unite the people. But then it was the same reason as in the Middle Ages.
"Stong enemies, make for a strong people".

Whether you voted for him or not you have to know that he could not get at least half of his campaign promises done. Thats just the way it goes, he is a politician, he made plenty of prmises that he wont keep, but so would have McCain.

If/when he pulls out of the mid East it will be ugly.

It is, I beleive, still very true today. We had tremendous military strength---overwhelming---when we faced the USSR during the Cold War. Suddenly, when the Berlin Wall fell, we had very few real "enemies." Bases closed, the military downsized. When the Cold War ended (it looks like it is starting up again) it was sort of like the saying, "Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it."

While we are still the strongest military in the world, we have had to re-focus our thinking, our perspective, and our military focus so that the military strength can continue to meet our needs.

The difference was, we used to know who the enemy was. We weren't even sure in Vietnam, and even today. We can call our enemy by name. But a terrorist, they look pretty much like you're neighbor, or the guy scooping ice cream at Baskin Robbin.

I dont know why this is a surprise, Obama clearly stated ON HIS CAMPAIGN WEBSITE that he wanted to recruit 90,000 more troops so that the individuals would have longer time at home during deployments. He also stated that he was going to pull out of Iraq and increase war efforts in Afghan.

Anyone who has ever been in the military knows that more people doesnt mean you get a longer break, more people means they can send more equipment and men over there.

Thats good for keeping people at home employed.

No I wasn't surprised. I think most people pretty much understood what would have to be done. The ones that don't understand have not given much though to the security they enjoy.

people at home employed should be spending time with their families. Everytime we get more people they decide we can handle another plane downrange. Which means 4-5 more people a deployment. More people doesnt give the people more time away from deployments, just means more deployments.

If I understand you right. What you're saying is The deployments are shorter, but more frequent, with the same people serving over and over.
If that's it, I agree with you. Sense I don't have any close relatives serving in the Mid East, I just don't think about that as closly as someone that has family there. I know the Gaurd unit here, that I was once a part of, has been there many times, so I have had a lot of people that I served Gaurd with that have gone, even in 93.
The Family members I have in regular Army, or other braches, now haven't been to that theater. But regular Army Posts' and rotations.

I did have a Brother inlaw{Navy} that was there in 93, He served on the Enterprise.

Show me a candidate that keeps his campaign promises and I'll show you George Washington. - Og

A funny thing happens when you have access to the same information that the 'actual' President has. Osama has no wisdom, his backtracking proves it.

The grand messiah isnt even in office yet and i'm already hearing the herd (dems) cry foul.
Just wait till he explains how things have gotten so much worse since his 2 yrs of campaign bs and how he now has to drop another 500-700 billion into his new socialistic "CHANGE" policies to save the country (world).
Oh great one!

I wasn't an Obama supporter, ut he is going to be our President now. My opinions differ from his, but I don't think the Lameducks are going to make this an easy transfer. That speaks volumes about the people in charge now.
Bush is make the midnight deals that will pin Obama and the American public down for some time to come.
So where is the leadership we need, The honest Man? I wonder if there is one left in the Capital. My negative attitude is coming from the things that have been going on the last few days of the current administration. They may see themselves as patriots, but you sometimes have to question motive.
Lame Ducks always push through the policies that would have made them more unpopular before the election.
The things coming in the next few months, I'm affraid I'll already have to aplaud Obama for. Even I see him in a different light.
This ramble means nothing, but it gets a little off my chest.
