bill,

If you have a current year lightning it should have signal mirrors. The signal is not in the mirror though it is on the outside.

Re: So, what about Triton

I'll take a guess. The 4.6, 5.4 and the V10 are 'Triton' motors.
Perhaps Ford is referring to the Greek meaning 'Tri' for three.

Manufacturers have to think these things through when coming up with a name. Toyota named their extended cab Tundra the 'Access Cab'. They also call their top Trim line truck the 'Limited'.

So, when you buy the very best they have to offer you end up with:
The 'Limited Access Cab'.

names, names, names.

Manufacturers go through many focus groups to come up with names that convey a desired image, while ideally can be translated into many languages.

Triton is just a mean sounding name for a V-8 or V-10 engine. Look at Vortec, Magnum and whatever Toyota calls theirs.

As far as XLT, GT, RT, RS, SS and the rest... these no longer have the meaning they did 30 years ago. They are nothing more than sub-names indicating a trim or option package.

Of course, Chrysler is the worst... remember the mid 80's Shelby Turismo?

Holy thread from the dead....

First off, use periods in your posting to not sound like you are 12.

Secondly, the VIN does not contain trim level.

Thirdly, for '92 your choices of trim from bottom to top were Custom, XLT, NITE, or Eddie Bauer.
