No, not really getting wound up. Just some good nature'd ribbing and some self defecation, oops, I mean deprecation.

Nah. You're a referee. You can just claim that you didn't HEAR OR SEE the foul. That is an inherent right of every sports official.

That should tell you something...

Hersh,
I'm sure this has been addressed later in the thread, but since this was referring to my post, I'll respond.

I could give a rat's *** what color the man is. There are several black men and women that I would be happy to vote for. THIS one isn't though. The man is far too liberal for me. The reason I'm ashamed of the country, is the voting populace has gone so far out of whack from what I believe American ideals are. Although I'm not a one issue voter, there is one primary issue that I consider above all, and that is the second amendment. The reason the second amendment is so important, is that it gives the other ones teeth. The Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution, because prior, there was no verbage that LIMITED government's power. With an unarmed public, the government can exercise far more control over the populace. Every socialist, and fascist regime has started off by taking the guns away. While I don't think that we will turn socialist or fascist in the next 4 years, I do think it is one step closer. Perhaps my kids or grandkids will see it. If there is any doubt that Obama wants to take guns away, there is ample evidence that he supports this idea. He co-sponsored a bill to redefine "armor piercing ammunition" (already illegal in IL) to "any centerfire ammunition," thus making all centerfire ammo illegal. He also voted to make it a requirement to prove that any ammunition purchased, must be proven to be for a gun that you own. While this may seem innocuous at first, think deeper, and you realize that you have to therefore register all of your firearms to buy ammo. Registration is the first step in taking them away (history proves). Also, he supported a bill that would allow shooting victims to hold ammunition manufacturers civilly liable in lawsuits. (they can sue the ammunition makers) This would do the same thing to the manufacturers that happened to the doctors of this country... malpractice insurance is so high, that medical care is out of reach for many people.

He has already stated that he will reinstate the "assault weapons" ban. This was some of the most asinine legislation I've ever seen. It did absolutely zero to prevent crime, and just punished the legal owners of firearms.

This is just the first on a laundry list of why I VEHIMENTLY oppose this man.

Additionally. There is a very liberal Congress. A couple of justices later, and we'll have a liberal majority Supreme Court. Now, there is a liberal President. There is absolutely no checks and balances. It truly scares me what they may be able to come up with.

Now, my being in the military- I joined back when Clinton was in office. I remember just how bad things were for the military. When we had to order a flight essential part for an aircraft, it would take months, and in a couple instances a year or more for them to come in. That's a $12 million dollar helicopter sitting on the ramp for a freakin year waiting on parts. THAT caused more morale issues than any deployments I've been on. Just dealing with a crap budget gave many people gray hair (you still have to complete the mission, you just have to be creative on how you get it done), and they just got out instead.

Again, these are just a tiny bit of the reasons I am ashamed at our voting public for electing this type of man into office at this time.

Not because he's black.

^^^^ Hersh does not care, you are white, you voted against a black man. Hersh has blinders made from bone that were attached surgically to each side of his ocular cavities. I liked your post, and I agree with you 100%, but you wasted your time on Bighersh. Seriously, I have tried. I have been exactly where you are now...thinking that you could REASON with him. Just trying to help.

The same during the Carter years.

I see this comment about Supreme Court justices quite often.

Some food for thought.
Four of the Justices are labeled 'liberal', four are labeled 'conservative', and Kennedy floats back an forth between the two camps.

Age is what creates a vacancy on the Supreme Court.
The three youngest justices are conservative, Roberts is 53.
The three oldest justices are liberal, Stevens is 88.

If Obama indeed has an oppurtunity to appoint 1,2 or 3 justices, he would be replacing liberal with liberal.
The liberal cause would be 'holding serve' at best, not growing by any margin.

This Court appointment argument just doesn't hold water upon examination.

Great post, and I agree 100%. Like Shines, I was reading it and thinking you are wasting your time trying to convince those that are not of like mind.

Many voters, including some on this site, will conclude the following is true about you and your argument:

1) You are making all that stuff up because, really, you are just looking for an issue to attack Obama on. They think no President would ever try to weaken the Bill of Rights, and even if they did, we have checks and balances like Congress and the Courts (lol)
2) Even if you believe what you say, you have an irrational love of guns that clouds your judgement about more important issues like Change.

The majority of people in this country will conclude the sooner you and people like you have your guns taken away, the better.

Basically, people would have voted for Obama anyways, even if your arguments were well discussed prior to the election.

Thanks for pointing out the demographics of the Supreme Court. I see you did not address any of the points made by the earlier poster about the 2nd Amendment.

So to summarize, your argument is that is OK for a liberal 44th President to appoint justices that would weaken the 2nd Amendment and the Bill of Rights, because the judges he would appoint are no worse than the ones that are likely to leave the bench over the next 8 years.

I'm having a hard time taking solace in that.

I own firearms, period.
I will always own firearms, period.
I do not run and look at the Constitution or the Bill of Rights to see if I will own firearms, period.

I do not buy into the hysterics of the "Second Amendment" argument.
It is way down.....way, way down on my list of priorities and I'm certainly not going to 'spend' my vote on it.

Will my children or grandchildren own firearms?
Sure, I will give them mine.
