This is a good point...we will have to interrogate Fish and find out why he has a truck bed and rides sometimes with nothing in it.

Most of the time my supercrew truck bed hauls air, but so do three of the four seats in the cab.

Well ya' know....

before I got my truck, I said I was buying it for "nothing but" towing my boat {afterall, that's all I ever used my old worn out Tacoma for}
But as it has turned out, I'm loving my new F150 so much, that I've pretty much been driving it on my 3 days off each week > even when I'm not fishing :-) Come on man, can you blame me ???

So anyway, later on when the newness wears off, and I'm not using it for anything but pulling the boat, I can see my full bed length being used {diagonally} close to 100% of the time, for my 7 1/2ft and 8 ft rods. (I hate two piece rods).

And actually, the back of my S-cab (one half of it anyway) will also be used 100% of the time.... for my sub box.

So, my S-cab is perfect for me..... Your S-crews are perfect for you.... S-cabs just look better ;-) I'm sorry man, I couldn't help it :-)

Seriously though, IMPO "ALL" F150's look better than all the other brands of half ton trucks.

Peace,
Fish

why not put your poles in your boat? thats where i have always kept mine if i am going out on a boat.

or why not get a pole mount and mount it to the front of your bed? i have broken a few rods from just leaving them in the bed loose

and i really hope you don't use that 6.5ft bed only for 2lb rods/reels. i understand you might bring 4 or 5 poles with you when going out fishing and get up to 10lbs plus that 5-10 pounds of tackle. don't over load your truck with that much weight in the bed!

You beat me to it.

C'mon Fish! The needing a 6.5 bed for some fishing rods is lame

If I have the boat hooked up, the rods are always in the boat. That goes for tackle boxes, minnow buckets, etc etc. Once I get there, I don't need to start transfering everything from the bed to the boat.

Hey, at least Fish saved some dough. If he had a SuperCrew, he would have had to spend more money on camo tape. Smart move, Fish. - Og

How do ya figure? A SCab with 6' bed is the same length as a SCrew with 5.5' bed.

Okay now....

06yz250f, last5oh, and OgRedd, I've never carried any of my tackle in my boat, as this boat, and especially, my old, even smaller boat that I used for the 10 years prior, are really light and bounce around a LOT ! {I've always wondered why boat trailers didn't use light duty shocks ?}
Plus, having a bedcover keeps rain, dust, etc, off of my gear as well.
It's just gotten to be something I feel much more comfortable doing.

Then, with my deep cycle batteries, I really don't like the idea of those bouncing up and slamming down in my boat either. I know.... I'm probably the only one that thinks about this stuff.

And hey 06yz250f, as for the load my truck is hauling / pulling.... my fishing tackle, deep cycle batteries, iceboxs, etc, weigh a little more than 10 lbs :-) I'd say usually closer to 200 lbs. Which granted, a light truck could handle just fine (what would you suggest ? A Tacoma ??? ;-) {although I did wear out my old Tacoma in only 216k miles}

Anyway, I did look at small trucks, before I got my F150..... and a new freaking Tacoma would have cost me darn near the same as my F150. None of the small trucks offered the rebates like the big trucks did. I didn't like the looks of the ranger.
So, I ended up getting the F150 thinking > Yea', it won't need to work near so hard to do what I need it to do..... So maybe, with good upkeep, it will last me longer than the 216k my old Tacoma did.

Bottom line, I'm glad I got my F150 S-cab. More than what I needed ? Probably. But I love it. It works just perfectly for my purposes, and again {IMPO} it has the best looking cab size to bed size ratio of all the F150's.

Peace,
Fish

The Scab 6.5 bed actually has a SLIGHTLY longer wheelbase than the screw 5.5 bed.

If Ford got to the point where they could only make one type of cab for the F150, I am pretty sure it would be Supercrew since it fits most people needs.
That will never happen, and if they did something that stupid, they would be shooting themselves in the foot. That would drive a lot of the commercial work truck and fleet buyers to GM and Dodge, and that's the real bread and butter in trucks. They are already pissing off a portion of their market by dropping the V-6 and manual trans in '09, if they drop the standard cab that will just add more fuel to that fire.

I'm pretty sure no one will be missing the V6 or the manual transmissions man. The 4.6 is already an underpowered power plant. There's no reason to buy the even more underpowered motor.
