Sorry to help hijack this thread ... but

I have voted republican since 1982. I make my living developing and modifying Financial Software along with DBA work on SQL server. I switched to MACs in 2001 and have not looked back. With VM Fusion and Parallels, I run XP/windows 2000/Vista/Server 2003 on my MACs at the same time Mac OS X is cruising along. With numerous clients running different versions of the same financial software that requires different versions of programming software. I am able to have unlimited PC images for as many clients I need and can just switch between them as needed. If I was stuck with a PC I would run into ALL kinds of issues switching back and forth with the different software versions. I am able to VPN into a client's network on the PC side and keep my MAC off their network. If I had just a PC when I VPN into their network and they have items blocked, I would not be able to receive any personal/business e-mail. I can do all of that and still keep the main benefit of not having to run anti-virus on Mac Side and do not have to worry about opening the wrong e-mail or clicking on the wrong link!!!

In my home we have 3 Macbooks, One 17" G4 PowerBook, One 17" MacBook Pro, A new 20" iMac, Power Mac G5 running Leopard server, one G4 Cube running Panther Server, and one Dell Server (Purchased before OS-X was even released) running Server 2000. I have been married for 17 years and we have 3 kids, so I don't fit THAT category either.

All the Dells eventually got viruses even with virus protection.

The first mac i had had anti virus but i didnt need it, the second mac i got i never even put anti virus on it and has been running fine for 2 years.

I have a 15inch widescreen mac book pro, think i paid 1700 for it

im in the same boat right now, i think i will be running windows vista and osx leopard on my computer soon. you can have both on a mac and switch between the two. so if you put it on a mac, and have the vista on it as well you can download windows programs to the vista, but not the mac, but you can switch between the two software

The debate of Mac for PC is always fun...the problem with PC's is not hardware.

BUT, you need all that hardware for a pc to run b/c the OS sucks so bad.

I used to build all my PC's, they too were tricked out, lots of this lots of that...didn't matter.

Now working for IBM...they offer Macs to the workers. What does that tell you?

Don't forget about VMWare Fusion or Parallels. I tried the Boot Camp thing on my MacBook, but having to re-start into the one I wanted was dumb. Fusion (the better of the two in my opinion) allows you to run Windows stuff from your Mac desktop, in a Windows environment.

Just my $0.02.

Ahh you guys and your fancy schmancy computers.
My AMD K6-2 running at 366Mhz with 64mb of ram still works perfect for web and email.

You just need to make em last, no need to waste money on the new stuff.

I like to keep my trucks and computers the same length of time.

No point being wasteful.

My PC was almost $3,000. when I bought it in 1998, you gotta make that chit last.
