McCain Asks for Debate Delay
I had thought of starting a new thread, "The Campaign That Never Was" but I will skip it as this thread fits right in.
I may be completely wrong, but since the two Conventions, I have become convinced that neither pair of candidates "handlers" are going to allow them to be exposed to any more open ended exposure to the press than they can get away with.
The famous Maverick McCain that I voted for in the 2000 primary and would have voted for if he had won, has been effectively muzzled. He is reduced to reading off of Telepromptors, which he does really badly, it is embarrasing to watch, and his normally voluminous answers to questions are now cut down to "Yes", "No", or "I already answered that question".
Gov. Palin has become the Princess in the Tower, unavailable to anyone in the Press, the Government or pretty much the Public.
The Republican handlers seem Hell bent on running the campaign on what I personally consider "Mud Slinging" advertisements that in the main seem to distort the issues vis a vis Sen. Obama.
Sen. Obama is doing no better, as he seems to spend most of his time on air complaining about the Republican's advertising and spends little time on real issues. His running mate, Sen. Biden, who is probably the only real Pro in the whole race, is running all over the country by himself trying to stir up some interest in a real traditional campaign. And then, he has to essentially reject the latest Obama ad which portrays McCain as a bumbling product of the 1960's. That, by the way was a really crappy bit of fluff that I think we, the Public, didn't need to see.
It is both ironic and sad for me to see that what I think all will agree is potentially the most historic election matchup in the last century, maybe in our entire history, buggered up by two hurricanes, gas shortages, and now the financial meltdown and all of these events seem to be playing into the plans of the handlers of both parties.
Get your guy/gal nominated, stick with the platform and minimize any possible opportunity for your candidates to stick their foot in their mouth and try to get to Nov. 4th as quickly as possible.
To return to the topic of the thread, I think it is a political ploy and nothing more to delay or cancel debates etc. Neither of the candidates has any expertise in the economic field and neither has any particular sway with the other members of their parties. Neither one of them is likely to be a factor in helping Congressmen or Senators get elected in November and those guys are going to act and vote according to what they see as their own constituents interests, or forbid the thought, their own interests.
Perhaps this election year will go down in history in an entirely different way than many of us thought it would 3-4 months ago.

I personally would like to see the two candidates do some town hall type meetings so that we can really hear what their stands are. Oh, I forgot. Obama doesn't want town hall type meetings. Why is that?
I believe that this move by McCain will actually lead to a loss in the election but he will be doing the job he's been elected to do. I understand that people are excited about Obama now. What do you think they'll be feeling come June of '09? Excited? I don't think so.
I think McCain is doing the right thing, even if it leads to a loss in the election. Hopefully he can help reach an agreement where no one gets bailed out and we let the chips fall where they may. It's time for a wake up call in this country. We should just hunker down and ride this out like they did in the '30s. Survival of the fittest.

2 - People will be excited. Bush will be gone.
3 - McCain could send Palin to debate and McCain could go to Washington to "do the job he's been elected to do" since he feels she's ready to fill his shoes.

4 - "I think McCain is doing the right thing..." - Of course you do. - Og
I'm sure Palin can tell him. She can see Washington from Alaska. - Og
You do realize that you can see Russia from Alaska right? It's also not an uncommon to see Russian bombers and fighter jets flying by the Aleutian Islands.
Ok. So everybody who can see Russia from Alaska is qualified for vice-president? I get it now. *knock* I should've had a V8. - Og
I'd say it makes you more qualified to be VP than being a community organizer makes you qualified to be President!
Organizing the community seems more inviting than casting sports in order to deal with a nation of people. Unless you're a hockey fanatic. Hockey sucks. Alaska sucks, too. - Og
I'd rather fish with Todd Palin on the Kenai River than shake down companies with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

Ok, so I give Hannity the credit God gave a rock. Curious, I guess. This is what I find. "Hannidate" - Awww. Ain't that cute. Where people in denial can meet and have little denialettes. I also saw "All Polls Now Show McCain in Deep Trouble". Now that's interesting. Sean Hannity - he is so funny to himself. What a blowhard nut job. - Og
Did you notice the "Umm Obama thinks new President will take over in 40 days" article? Wow... This is a quote from Obama at a news conference yesterday,
"With respect to the debates, it’s my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who, in approximately 40 days, will be responsible for dealing with this mess."
So Biden thinks FDR was President in 1929 and thinks there was TV as well. Obama thinks the new President will take over in 40 days. They may not be the sharpest tools in the shed, but they're still in the shed huh!
