When a roof blows off even in a straight wind, it can get a little dicy. Plus trees and signs, etc.

If this storm comes in at a Cat 3 it wont be horrible. If it builds up to a CAT 4 or 5 you better get the hell out of there.

They've change the landing of this thing yet again. Now it may be going east of Houston. They have it coming ashore between Galveston and Freeport and taking a right turn. They are predicting it to be in St Louis Mo. by Sunday AM. What I find REAL interesting is the buoy info. There is a buoy that is less than 25 miles from the eye and it is showing winds of 50 mph and gusts to 72. The weather folks are saying it has 100 mph winds. The math ain't right somewhere. I've also noticed that they've turned off any other buoys in its path. Strange. Starting to sound like paranoia.

Ever since Katrina people have been over reacting about hurricanes. The media is crazy!

We've been getting 50-60mph winds and a lot of rain since yesterday. Also getting some coastal flooding about 20 miles south of here. We are also under a tornado watch for the rest of the day so I called in and told them at work I'll see 'em Monday. Not taking a chance ruining my truck!! My wife's sister and her husband live in League City and Ike may pay them a visit. Texan's can't take the water like Cajun's can, we're used to it. Also please help the leftover Katrina evacuee's get out of Ike's way. Aim 'em west, not back to the New Orleans area. Look's like storm is still headed for the Galvezton-Freeport area but still can take a hook to the right. Ya'll take care and be safe.

Wow! They're saying Ike puts Katrina to shame. Look at the size of Ike! It's bigger than Texas. It looks like it's going to take out all of Texas judging by the size of it. It basically takes up the entire Gulf.

Best wishes to all living in those areas:

I just saw an ad for the Dominican. 20th of Sept all inclusive at a 4 star resort which is a nice resort (know someone that's been there) in Punta Cana.

$95 plus $369 taxes.

I'd love to book a last minute deal like that with hurricanes in the forecast, just to experience, see, and take pics a hurricane. Okay, perhaps I wouldn't want to go with a cane like Ike on the horizon, but I've always had the urge to do it.
I recall a Bahamas resort going for $350 last year with a hurricane on the horizon.
I could handle all you can drink and eat for a week on an island in the caribbean during a hurricane for those prices! .

So your saying storm surge of 15 ft. + isn't anything to worry about? Your crazy. it's already getting over the seawall in galveston and the thing hasn't even made landfall.
