Calling around to get quotes for a Transmission Service and Diff Service. Apparently Ford has done something to where most shops machine wont work with these transmission's. Out of 7 places i got told 6 times its dealer only service. Don't really want to be out $510 on both services.

Yea, just want to get it done so its documented in case something comes up. After all warranty is done then I will be willing to do it myself

 

Providing receipt for parts (fluid) and a service log book is enough to prove it's been done.

Doing all my own oil changes, I keep some of the receipts and I log everything in my book. Feel plenty comfortable with how it will be presented.

I don't want to keep up with all that crap, would rather it be in the dealers computer or a reputable shop.That way it's 100 percent proof. I wouldn't put it past this dealership to say that a reiept or a service book is not enough proof.

So far everything that has been done maintence wise is in the dealers computer. 52k miles worth of oil changes etc.

One thing that sucks is I don't have a dealer on every corner like the big town's do, these idiots can put any price they want and most people pay it because the next closest dealership is 90 miles away.

 

Goodyear said they have the adapter to do the Transmission exchange. Quoted me a crazy low price of 139.99. Sure seems cheap after you figure the price of the fluid. He said they use Valvoline fluids and have will put the right stuff in. Now not sure whether to trust good year or pay double and then some at Ford.

 

That's what it cost me for a flush on my 2005 back in 2009, at the dealer.

 

I went up there and asked specifically what fluid they would use.. They said ford uses mercron LV and they would use the Valvoline Maxlife Dexron/Mercon and it falls under the Motorcraft Mercon LV fluid. About to do some research and see if it does. Poor guy probably thought i was a flat out A hole with all the questions, . Just want to make sure its as good as the MC fluid.

 

Do dealer flushes really run $500.00 on these trucks?! I know they have a tad more fluid than a typical car, but I want to say the dealer flush-and-fill for my wife's Escape runs around $200.00 - $250.00 and we do it every 25k on that vehicle. (The transmission is the "weak link" in the Escape drivetrain and frequent flush-and-fills minimizes the potential for issues.) Other than the amount of fluid, shouldn't the process be fairly similar?

 

Ford quoted me 279.95 for the transmission exchange. then 189.95 for rear diff *flat out stupid btw* came to 508.66 with taxes and all for the quote.

Goodyear is 139.95 Trans and 69.95 for Diff with a grand total of $227.22.

I was told these trucks hold 12.1 quarts of fluid

 

Doesn't sound like enough. My 2005 took 16 to 17..

 

you should be able to get a full pan worth 4-5 qts out through the dipstick tube, with appropriate suction machine
