Thanks Dave, yea, I didn't know you could do that.

Gotta get that right, don't need anymore payroll deductions, that's for sure.

The Mule is low on coolant. If I remove the radiator cap and and add coolant trough the overflow bottle, will the air escape out the radiator and keep from getting air in the system?

Yes, the overflow cap or "Degas Cap" vents air out of the system. Air is considered a gas in most cases. If it's trapping, you have to replace or just clean the cap.

Thanks Jim, just needed reassurance, did not want to create an air pocket. Got the battery charging but may end up having to replace it.

No problem. Yea, Ford calls the overflow tank a Degas Bottle. At least they have for years. It's really a Expansion Tank (same thing). When the Degas bottle cap stops working or venting, you'll loose a little coolant.

The mule was my BILs and he really neglected it. Just drove it. I'm cleaning it up a little and trying to learn how to service it, maintain it a little better.

Oh okay, so it just has an actual radiator cap? Yea same deal, if that's the case. Some don't use a bottle and vent from the top of the rad. But it works the same. An 02 or 3, seems like it would have a separate bottle. The bottle makes it easier to keep an eye on and is a safety feature. Which is probably why they started using them or were mandated to incorporate at some point in time.

The bottle is separate and it's back by the motor. The radiator is in front of the cab. There is a cap on the radiator and one on the bottle. I think if I remove the cap from the radiator and pour coolant in at the bottle, the air will be forced out at the radiator, eliminating any pocket.

Bonus! I wonder if both caps are vented then? Just make sure the vented one or both are clean and functioning and you shouldn't have a problem. Compressed air is the best way to clean them out. Not sure how else you could do that other than possibly soaking in something.
