Great White Shark Attack!
Great White Shark Attack!
I saw the story on the news in Ca., about the Great White Shark attack that killed a 66 Year old man. Was wondering if anybody here is from the area & would offer any more insight?.............
I use to do a lot of diving for lobster and scallops down in Florida and I always worried about sharks. I was mostly worried about the tiger sharks since they are plentiful in that area. They say there is only an estimated 5 great whites around florida but that was always in the back of my mind too.
One time when I was coming in from a dive and had just left the gulf and was heading up into a river when I spotted a manatee swimming, so I dove in and swam with it for a few minutes. That was most likely a dangerous situation since I was in prime bull shark waters. In all my years diving I only once spotted a shark and it was a smaller hammerhead.
I always told my mom that I wouldn't die from a shark attack because I would die from a heart attack first if I seen a large one coming my way.
Dying from a shark attack would be a horrible way to go.

He was in the water training for some event, with a group of other people. He had on a wetsuit; and, they speculate that he was confused for a seal. It let him go; but, he bled to death on the beach.
They say sharks don't like the way we taste... or something. Too bad for this guy and his family. I really don't like the beach or ocean swimming very much. Throw sharks into the mix, and I just don't go.

I like going to the beach and building sand castles with friends and playing Frisbee with women in bikinis
I don't care for swimming in the ocean that much though.

I have been scuba diving for 15 years. I have dove in the carribbean as well as Florida many times. My last trip down in Florida I was snorkeling in about 3 feet of water off a beach in Key West when I saw a 5 foot hammer head swim about 15 feet away from me. THe shark didnt even acknowledge me being there. I have seen planty of nurse sharks but that was my only time seeing something that could do damage to me. Sharks aren't looking to eat people. 99% of the time its a mistake.
ummmm Great whites can't go on land. We are the top of the food chain and we can go anywhere we want. The key is to be prepared.

That is scary though!
