What to do about speeding locals?

I was following my girfriend home yesterday when I passed her so she can draft off of me. Well she fell back and some idiot in a '99 Dodge Dakota V8 4-door like flys by her and pulls in behind me, I can see he was getting prepared to pass me too. We were doing 45 (speed limit) on a little back counrty road that has pot holes and all. Well he passes me and really ticks me off cause he was doing like 85. Just a stupid teenager trying to race me. Well as a test I caught up to him and flicked on my PA and attatcehd it to my Zune and played a sound clip of a police siren to see what would happen.

Well the guy looked in his rearview and floored it doing like 90 now. I let off and get home, thinking how idiotic some ppl are. This is one of the reasons I want to be a police officer. How can I slow these people down? This is like the 3rd time this week I've seen someone do 80+ in a 45 zone where I live. We are about 30 miles out of city limits so no officers are going to set up a speed trap. What to do?

Thx!

Well, first off, you speeding to catch up to him and "simulating" police sounds probably won't help, espically if BOTH OF YOU are exceeding the speed limit.

What to do with "speeders" in your area? Nothing you can really do. Sad to say this, but the only way the speeders are going to change is if they hurt someone else or themselves.

Just let them go on down the road.
They are speeding while you're asleep and while you're watching tv.
Take a few deep breaths and think about what a good driver you are.

We had a local newsguy around here that did a 'special' traffic segment.
He would chase down cars on foot with the cameraman chasing, stick his microphone in the driver's window and yell. "did you know you ran that Stop sign,...did you know that was an illegal Right-On-Red?...why did you just Run that Red light?...etc..."

The segments ended after he was arrested for drunk driving.

Here's my cure for chronic speeders. Give them a handicapped parking permit to hang on their mirror. Ever seen anybody with one of them speeding? I rest my case.

I did something similar... but I was at Englishtown, rolled down my window and blared Ride of the Valkyries while staring at my competition. He had a faster car easily, but I think it just physched him out and he red lighted!

Nothing you can do except maybe complain to the local cops, see if they will have one sit out there some day or something.

I speed like a mother.... out in the rural country where there are no cops, open road, blah blah....well someone got tired of it (I know who it was too) and decided to talk to the local cop who decided to take a trip out on this road. I got nailed to say the least.

Im sure you could try something like that if you really wanted to do something about it.

Maybe its because Im a speeder, but I say unless hes running you off the road or really feel unsafe, then just let him be. Personally I dont see a damn thing wrong with speeding if your out in the middle of no where with no one around or anything.....

I speed...but never 20 over the limit. After 20, no deferred or defensive driving.

Raptor, why do you speed? Just let the guy go by, no harm done. Here is proof that you speed, so why does it matter if someone else does?

Proof of Raptor speeding.

WTH 85+ MPH, somebody is a hipocrit!

Yep, here in NE its 19 or over and you cant take the class. Only allowed one class every 3 years. Luckily, I think Im coming up on 3 years since my last class

On the highway when there are no cars around, wide open, but I know there could be a chance of a cop, it stays under 80 mainly because of that. I think that may be close to the point of a 'wreckless driving' ticket also, which would be no good.

Rural roads around here though, like my 20 mile trip into town or running around out here in the country, it usually doesnt go UNDER 80

I like to pretend Im driving an F-1 car...just tape over the '50' on the fender badges and make those cool exhaust sounds they make.

Raoul, it's almost like babysitting, isn't it? Except for the diapers and splitpea mush in your face.

I'm amazed that you could have done it for as long as you have.

In Texas, it was every two years. Now, we can take it every year. If one is lucky enough to get two speeding tickets in the same day , you can take care of both with two defensive driving courses. The state never caught me because when the court checked my record, it showed that I had not taken the course in under a year.
