With the amount of people here who have dogs I thought it would be useful for people to see this again so no one else has to loose a pet.

People should also be aware that other OTC products(like bio spot) are also dangerous. The problem with the OTC products is that the chemicals are absorbed into the blood stream where as with products from your vet(frontline, k9 advantix, advantage) etc. stay on the dog's skin and do not go into it's system

Some people still aren't comfortable with using any kind of chemical and there are holistic alternatives for flea prevention.

Yikes! I missed this one the first time around. Sorry for your loss, but thank you for enlightening everyone to this issue. I use Frontline for my dog, but I do believe I have some Hartz shampoo, which I only use like 2 times a year. In the trash it goes, thanks.

That's it -- I'm getting a nice collection of Hartz products for my neighbor's cats!

I know the original post is old, but I never saw it and would still like to let you know I am sorry for your lost.
I give my Lab comfortis for flea control. Its a chewable which is very nice not to have it applied to their coat and works great. She has been on it for about 2 years now with no negative side effects or fleas. It is supposed to be now integrated into a flea control + heart guard but I am unsure of the new product name.

Here is one of the last picture of him I have. He was a very happy and friendly dog. Since then we only use frontline for our pets, the thing that pisses me off is you can go to any store and buy the same stuff we bought. Even petsmart carries it.

We had to put down my dog about a year ago, she was almost 15 yrs old. We had a little warning as her health was fading, but I couldnt imagine loosing her unexpectedly. I would have been broken inside.

Where do you buy this Hartz Flea spray?

Sounds like I need some for the cats around the yard that my wife won't get rid of.

Comfortis goes into the blood stream. I realize this post is from 2009 when Comfortis was barely moving.

There have been NO long term studies done. The FDA approved it because it does what it says. They just don't know if it causes organ failure. Hell, my boss was at Kansas CVC and asked the rep and he said he didn't know.

Yup, I saw the other post about someone loosing a dog and wanted to make sure no one else had something like this happening to them.

Sorry to hear about your dog, I know that is horrible! Like alsupercab said, get a lawsuit going. Remember that dog food wal-mart sold that had fungus/moldy wheat in the dog food that killed a great number of dogs? They ended up getting sued in a class action law suit if I recall it correctly. See if there is a class action lawsuit somewhere you can start making some noise on. Hit em where it hurts, in their wallet.

My vet also told me about this very same thing, I barely sprayed it on my 160 pound great dane and he was sick for 2 months. A smaller dog has no chance with this toxic crap. I say F the lawsuit, safety off and fully automatic. Somebody's head would be on my wall, after my prison stint. Dog's are better people than most people.

Going on over 3 years with Comfortis now, thankfully she is as healthy as can be, turned 4 on 12 December 2010. Not hyping the product, just saying so far so good - hopefully it will stay that way.
