Aside from the appearance package, is there a functional differnce between the F-150 4x4, and the F-150 FX4?

Too bad you're not in Texas, Local Ford dealers are selling 2008 SuperCrew XLT's for $20,998, and taking $9,000 off 2008 SuperDuties. Those are 4x2's, but looks like where you are, 4x4 is not a "luxury" but a necessity.
I haven't seen snow that deep in Texas in over 10 years.

Oh yeah that snows nothin tho lol. Theres only a few trucks in their entire inventory that are 4x2 and they are the poor mans special silver long bed 2 door work trucks. Nothing above an XL you will find in 4x2 on these lots
I ended up selling it a few years later because the job I had at the time gave me a brand new loaded Silverado and there was no point in paying a payment and insurance on a truck that was just going to sit there. Believe it or not I liked my poor mans special better than the Loaded Silverado, but hey I will drive a Daewoo if someone else is paying the payment, insurance, maintenance and gas on it
Hey, the Edge is a pansy vehicle. It's a grocery go getter. I find it interesting that people think it's cool.
I will have had my Edge for two years in April. It's a great vehicle. It ain't any looker to me, but it's quite functional. Mine's a FWD SE. Bare bones. Bare Bones in an Edge isn't all that bad. Gives me what I need. For mpg I average 18 city and 24 highway (been tracking mpg since new). In the winter I've seen as low a 17 and have seen as high as 26 on the highway. The 3.5/6-speed combo make this vehicle feel pretty powerful. It's pretty good at merging onto the highway. It's not a race car. If you play with the throttle too much you'll confuse the transmission.
I wish that I could have two vehicles. I like having a pick up, because most of us need on at one time or another. A car is cool to have too, in case you need to transport people. At the moment I can only have one. The Edge is pretty good at taking us to hikes and camping. There is enough room for our gear. There is even enough room to fit the new clothes dryer we had to buy recently. That was a tight fit. I've had a pick up only too. The problem there is, things stored in the bed aren't all that secure. They can be easily stolen and tend to move around alot back there, especially with my driving. I'm also increasingly concerned that our big government is going to someday tell us that we can't drive the v8, gas guzzeling vehicles any more, or that they will make us pay a ton more to do so.
You'd learn to like what ever vehicle. I think that the F150's are nice. I might get one for work someday, but it'll be a while before I can have two personal vehicles. What ever way you go, Ford is making some pretty nice products.
