Mine is FWD. I didn't want AWD. Insurance is just like a 4WD or Spors car... Which I thought was a crock... I had AWD on the MDX, I intentionally passed on it with the Edge.

My wife and I bought a Black Edge SE about 9 months ago. We absolutely love it. I have nothing bad to say about it.
FYI, the 6 spd in it was co-designed with GM. Its the same tranny that is used in the GMC Arcadia.

Ditto here bud.

I got rid of that Escape ASAP because it was a total nightmare to work on. Hence I let the dealer do most of the work.

Packing 3.5l V6's into a tight fitting front wheel drive layouts is tough enough in a factory. I know how bad they are when they are fully assembled.

I hated how hard it was to pull the plugs and do other general maintainence on that thing. I would have hated to be the one to change the serpentine belt on it.

Our compass actually has a lot of room to do work in it... not to mention it is an i4 so plug swaps are a synch. Surprisingly, the o2s are easy to get at too. The only hard part would be the serpentine belt and a drive accessory. Other than that it is decently easy.

A friend has a 500 and he asked me to swap the plugs in it, and he's got something like 80k on the factorys, and I popped the hood, and I said, "no friggin' way!" The back 3 would've been a nightmare in reality.

However, even though my Dakota's engine is PACKED with engine with the v8... it's still a joy to work on because most everything is up front... nothing on the side or back. Same way on my F150.

I just don't like how manufacturers are forcing the public to have them bring their vehicles to a dealer. Kinda kills people like me fixing their own vehicles.

Yeah, I had a v6 (3.1L) 1994 Olds Cutlass Supreme SL Coupe, and I liked the car- so I bought it. I had done hardly any research on it, since "regular" cars are rarely profiled in major magazines. So, I wasn't sure if it was a V6 or a V8. Compared to my 95 HP 2.2L i4, it felt like a V8.

My roommate, who had a 325i thought it felt strong too. He said, "Man, does this thing have a v8 in it? I said, "I don't know- I haven't even looked."

So, when we got back to the barracks, we popped the hood and there they were, three spark plugs. The plate said 3.1L V6, and it was traversely mounted, but I thought I'd at least get to see all 6 plugs.

He said, "I'll be damned, it is a V6!" I said, I wonder why they put the engine in like this. We can only reach 3 of the plugs. How are we gonna get to the other three?"

He said, "Oh- you got to pay to see the other three!"

LOL- I just remembered that conversation as you guys mention how they're forcign you by design, to have to pay to have your car maintained.

Come to find out. You had to loosen bolts on two brackets, and the engine rotated forward about 12 inches, exposing the other bank of cylinders.

Hmmm, that was 14 years ago...

14 years ago people thought we'd be running on some kind of space age fuel. Not gasoline.

Anyhow, yeah, I think it is insane though how much they pack in to the engine compartments. It's like you have to take 1/2 the engine apart to change a simple $1 component that could be easily done if the engine was mounted longitudinally instead of the nasty front wheel drive transverse layout.

What kind of highway fuel mileage are you guys getting with the AWD Edge? I noticed that the '07 window sticker said 24 on the highway, and the '08 window sticker says 22 (not sure what changed)...was just wondering how accurate those numbers really are.

Have any of you Edge owners towed anything with your Edge? I currently have an F150 and small crossover (Pontiac Vibe). The only thing I really NEED my truck for is to pull a snowmobile trailer a few times every winter, and I'm wondering how the Edge would handle that. I know the Edge is rated to pull quite a bit more than my trailer with one sled on it (sled is probably around 550 lbs with gas), but I would be interested in hearing some real-world experiences. If an Edge could handle it with no problem, it would probably make better financial sense to own something like that, instead of a truck (to pull) and a car (for gas mileage).

Based on 3 users they averaged 16 mpg, although the new ratings give it a bit more:

Are you disagreeing with some or all of my statement. For the most part it is the same tranny?

"General Motors and Ford Motor Company teamed up in 2002 to create a new automatic transmission design. The 6-speed transmission was developed after each company contributed US$720 million to the effort. It is a compact transaxle designed for transverse engine applications in cars and light trucks.

Each company will name and manufacture the transmission separately:

Ford will build the 6F at their Van Dyke Transmission Plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan and in the future at Sharonville Transmission in Sharonville, Ohio
GM builds the 6T70 and 6T75 at Warren Transmission in Warren, Michigan with production starting in July, 2006[1]
Ford claims the 6F is designed to handle 300 hp (224 kW) and 280 ft·lbf (380 N·m), while General Motors rates their 6T75 to 315 hp (235 kW) and 300 ft·lbf (407 N·m).

The first application of the technology is the 2007 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossover SUVs as well as the Saturn Aura sedan and Saturn Outlook crossover."

Applications:

GM:

2007 Saturn Aura XR
2007 Pontiac G6 GTP
2007 Saturn Outlook
2007 GMC Acadia
2008 Buick Enclave
2008 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ (LY7 V6 Option)
Ford:

2007 Ford Edge
2007 Lincoln MKX
2008 Ford Taurus
2008 Ford Taurus X
2008 Mercury Sable

Nice thread. I get x plan through work and I am on my 1st lease with the wife's car. We have 2 kids and the Mariner is just way too small. Plus, no tow package. She "had to have it" though.

So, I'm looking at the either an AWD Edge or she wants to try out the Flex. I'll be pulling the trigger on one or the other come next Feb. The biggest thing I would ever pull with it would be a couple of sleds on a trailer.

Sounds like the perfect car for a 2 year lease. Wonder how the Flex will be?
